Congrats from a Gaucho Loco

Recommended Posts

As one of the couple dozen Gaucho Locos who "adopted" Akron as their tournament team, I have to say that everything about your program and fans was absolutely fantastic. From a soccer standpoint, your team was technically precise in so many ways, with pace to spare (Kofi in particular seemed VERY on his game this weekend). Every single one of the Rowdies I had the pleasure of meeting was friendly, knowledgeable about the game, and LOUD in their support. I was also very impressed by your university's president (Luis, was it?) showing up - he was a class act, and a genuinely likeable guy. There was a lot of fun cross-cultural exchange, and you left us with a very good impression of your school and fans. I'm looking forward to your return here in September! From one mid-major fan to another, congratulations on a well-deserved national title!

I've got a litttle secret for you pal -- I love Santa Barbara! Although the seats were a bit disappointing, everything else about my first trip to the Central Coast and the College Cup was enjoyable -- particularly the ending :D !!!

Thanks to each and every one of the Gaucho Locos who chose the Akron Zips as your "Team of the Week". If I can make it back in Sept '11, I'll buy you guys a pitcher at Gio's. Hell, it's only six bucks. GauchoYoungin, you guys do it right. We'll be rooting for the Gauchos whenever they aren't on the same field as the Zips. Mahalo nui loa, me ke aloha pumehana.

I can't even tell you how awesome the folks at UCSB were. The entire experience was amazing and the stadium truly was "Soccer Heaven." Thanks to all the Gaucho Locos that adopted the Zips. I think the Rowdies and the Locos each took some new cheers back from each other, which is awesome. See you guys next year.

I'll second Zipperforaday and say that I'm glad we picked the right team to support. I've been talking with Rowdies all weekend about how similar our schools are and I couldn't be happier unless it were the Gauchos who had the trophy this year. Congratulations on getting it done, Zips. Now, when Akron comes back out to Santa Barbara in September I might have to shift my support a bit... :P
