AKRON, Ohio – Pole vaulter Mike Uhle, a senior on The University of Akron track and field team, currently owns the top mark in the nation after clearing 17-04.50 in a dual meet against Temple last Friday.

Uhle, who earned NCAA Indoor Pole Vault All-American status a year ago, is a six-time Mid-American Conference individual champion (three indoor and three outdoor). The native of Powell, Ohio, was one of 11 winners on the day on the men's side – including the Zips' 4x400 relay team – as UA cruised to its first win of the year against the Owls in Stile Athletics Field House.

Uhle secured his berth to the NCAA Indoor Championships last year by clearing a personal-record, 17-09.25 at the Virginia Tech Qualifier; a mark that ranks second on the Akron and Mid-American Conference all-time lists. Uhle enters the week leading Missouri's Brian Hancock (17-00.75), BYU's Chris Little (17-00.75), Eastern Illinois' Michael Viken (16-09.50) and Minnesota's Ben Peterson (16-08.75), who round out the nation's top five in the pole vault. See the full rankings by clicking here.

The Zips men's and women's track and field teams will be back in action again Friday night when arch rival Can't State comes to the Stile Athletics Field House for a dual meet beginning at 7 p.m.

I wish we could get a good student showing to some of the indoor track meets this year, the Can't Duel was ok but I feel like we as a school can make it better. I know that it is hard to get students to go to indoor meets because heck most people don't follow track but we have a strong team in both the men and women and it would make it all the much better to see more students there (also a Akron Soccer player runs track maybe that will get some attention if I say SOCCER)

I stopped by the meet yesterday with the intention of picking up my 15 rooward points and some free pizza and then hanging out for maybe half an hour. Me and a buddy ended up staying for the whole meet and are planning on showing up for future events. I'd never been to a track meet before, and the whole experience was really fascinating.
