Sophomore center Zeke Marshall has been instrumental to the success of the Akron Zips this season, providing the team with size and defense inside.

Standing 7'0" and weighing 218 pounds, he has managed to post averages of 8.6 points (52.4 percent shooting), 4.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks—all in only about 22 minutes per contest.

Nevertheless, his play has helped Akron earn a No. 15 seed in the Southwest Regional, where it will have a tough matchup against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

However, should the Zips emerge victorious from that contest, Marshall would instantly be on many NBA teams' radars, as players with his combination of size, length and athleticism are few and far between.

Therefore, if Akron can get something going, he should be a strong candidate for the 2011 NBA draft.

I already predicted he will be on the NBA radar if he plays really well.

But no NBA team is going to pay him megabucks to sit on the bench for a couple of years while he physically matures.

Now, if he ends next year at 7'1" and 240#, it may be bye bye Zeke.

He has a lot of raw talent, but does not have the skills that LeBron had out of High School. Almost NO ONE ever does.

If we beat Notre Dame and he has a solid game, he'll be on the NBA's radar. But to actually get drafted he'll need to accumulate stat lines like he did in the MAC championship game throughout the tournament while leading us to the Elite 8 or better. Not knocking Ziggy at all, but that's a very unlikely scenario. His success depends on how well the team around him is playing. He could play out of his mind with a triple-double and one or two more Sportscenter Top-10 plays against ND but if we lose he won't even get a sniff.

Now, another offseason of heavy workouts and working on his game and it might simply come down to whether there's an NBA lockout.

The NBA will be there for Zeke one day, but unless he goes off for a series of 25 point, 12 rebound, 8 block games in leading us to the Elite 8 it won't be this year. NBA teams are going to look at him and see a kid with a lot of physical tools that they like that still needs to become a more well rounded basketball player.

There is a video on Youtube of Zeke in HS running down court to try to stop a dunk. He does not get there but he can REALLY move for a big guy. He kept up with a guard.

We don't see that speed in the defense we play, but he is really fast as well as big.

I recall a game at the JAR where an opposing guard stole the ball from the Zips and raced upcourt for a layup. Zeke chased him down from behind and almost caught him for the block. I was really impressed by Zeke's foot speed on that play.

Not any guard Dave...an NBA bound Guard if we're thinking of the same play.
