Recruiting Class is Awesome Already

Akron is off to the BEST RECRUITING CLASS IN THE MAC... AGAIN. Joe Moorhead is the MAC's top recruiter, JD Brookhart is t he league's best coach, and Akron has the best on-campus training facilities in the State. Here are just a handful of the commitments already wrapped up by the 2005 MAC CHAMPIONS. Jared DeWalt, 6-foot-5, 295 pound dynamo lineman from Brush HS. DeWalt selected Akron over offers from Cincinnati, Toledo, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan and Central Michigan. Last summer he earned the best lineman award this summer at Ohio State's football camp. He was also named Brush's Most Valuable Player and helped the Arcs reach the second round of the Division I playoffs. DeWalt runs a 5.15 40-yard dash and his bench max is 405 pounds. He also squats 500. The Zips have also received a commitment from receiver Darryl Henderson of Potter's House Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Fla. Henderson is 6-foot-5 and weighs 210 pounds. He selected UA over Nebraska and Central Florida. Jason Sekinger, a 2005 signee to Minnesota, committed to the Zips this weekend after taking an official visit to Akron. The 6-foot-9, 320-pounder signed with the Golden Gophers in 2005. Sekinger is enrolled at UA and will start classes the week of the 17th and will be eligible to play this fall. Other committments are... Andre Boone RB 5-10 179 4.64 5.6 Virginia Beach, VA • Will join Alex Allen and Dennis Kennedy in a talented Zips backfield. He's a natural runner and a first class kid. He's humble player with all the physical tools needed to be successful at the next level. Andre possesses great vision, solid angles, excellent strength, good blocking skills, and he's a threat in the passing game Ranked 40th best RB in the nation. Chose Akron over Marshall and Wake Forest. Dantley Cline DT 6-0 268 5.19 5.1 East Point, GA • Georgia Top 30 recruit dominated at talent-rich East Point HS and will redshirt in 2006 behind uber-powerful Zips DL < top in the MAC. Jared Dewalt OL 6-5 292 5.18 5.5 Lyndhurst , OH • Could push for PT as FROSH along with a talented '05 redshirt OL group. Chose Akron over Cincinnati, West Virginia, Bowling Green, Miami-OH, Toledo. Sean Hakes QB 6-3 182 5.02 5.4 Ft. Worth, TX * Will start classes at UA this month - a steal for Akron out of the Lone Star State. Chose Zips over Colorado State, Ole Miss and Toledo. Ohio native wanted to play college career in front of family in Ohio. Igor Iveljic K 6-0 180 - 5.2 Mentor, OH • Will be the best kicker in the MAC from day one of college career. ranked #11 HS Kicker in the nation. Good from 60+ in HS. Chose Akron over Toledo and Ball State. Taylor Price WR 6-1 195 4.4 5.1 Hilliard, OH • Has a jet engine up his tail - scary fast with great hands. Can play offense or defense. Chose Zips over Cincinnati, Indiana, Pitt, West Virginia and Miami. Marcus Proctor DT 6-3 285 4.7 5.3 Alliance, OH • MANIMAL defender who chose Akron over Miami, Bowling Green, Toledo and Cincinnati.
