ZachTheZip Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 The Hiram game saturday offers a breather before we face a tough slate of games. it also offers something positive to wash the taste of Ianello-brand football out. We still have a long way to go, and Hiram offers the team a good opportunity to work things out that the coaches saw from our first real game. I would put Mississippi State at somewhere around the level of a middle-of-the-pack MAC East team, like Buffalo. I would put our opponents after Hiram as better than that, aside from Valpo who is probably a little better than Bowling Green. Duquesne, Detroit, and WVU are all better than Mississippi State is. And all of these games are important in the eyes of the selection committee. Quote
Dave in Green Posted November 11, 2011 Report Posted November 11, 2011 Let's give credit to the Zips for making MSU look like a mid-level MAC East team last night. That doesn't mean that MSU is going to play the whole season like a mid-level MAC East team. MSU is expected to be a mid-level SEC team, with enough talent to be a higher-level SEC team if they get their act together. Zips fans should be all too familiar with slow season starts, because we've suffered through our share. Here's an interesting trivia fact about little DIII Hiram: They are not the lowest division team in this season's 2K Sports Classic. That honor would fall to Indiana-Kokomo, which has games against Valparaiso and the University of the District of Columbiia in the Valparaiso Subregional. This is the first season of basketball for Indiana-Kokomo, which hopes to be accepted as an NAIA program next season. This season, Indiana-Kokomo belongs to no division of any sanctioning organization. While Hiram won't pose much of a challenge for the Zips, it will offer us all an opportunity to give them a big cheer for what they accomplished in Mississippi. Quote

I was intrigued by UDC and found out that Jeff Ruland is their coach. The former NBA player and Iona star (and coach I believe) should be able to do a nice job there. To be honest, I didn't even know there was such a school until yesterday. Quote
