Zips men's basketball has received 8 votes in the AP Top 25 Poll and 1 vote in the ESPN/USA Today Poll. I'd love to see us with a national ranking before the season is over as its great for recruiting and advertising of the university. However, a 20+ win season and a post-season appearance would be more satisfying!

Ahh the new rankings are out. I suspect that the coaches/media that vote in those only look at the conference standings.AP two weeks ago, Akron: 3 votes | Can't: 2 votesAP last week, Akron: 0 | Can't 3 (that was after akron lost to Can't)Now this week Akron has 8?That's a hell of a jump for only having gone 1-1 in the week since the last poll. But since Can't lost, they see Akron on top and vote for us.Not saying I don't like the 8 votes. I just question if most of those guys have any idea about the team.

We went 2-0 last week. I don't think the voters really care about who's winning the MAC at all. This week is huge for the Zips. One game at a time and no looking past BG but the game at Neveda lines up to put Akron on the mid major map and bubble. A win there might mean more nationally then any regular season conference victory left on the schedule.Beat BG first.

Akron would have to go undefeated to be ranked.
Even undefeated, would they really break the top25?If Nevada were ranked, that might be different.
If they would put Bucknell in the top 25 with three losses, what (other than the usual "because the media wants to keep us down!" self-fulfilling prophecy) makes anyone think they wouldn't rank Akron if they had a similar or better w-l record/SOS?

Hey Zen, Last week Akron had 4 votes and Can't was misteriously left off of the list!If we beat Nevada, what do you think that would do to our ranking?

whaaaa??? I must be killin too many brain cells.:CK_brew:This is how I remember it.The week after the Miami and BG wins, AP gave us 3 points. Can't had 2.At the time, in the MAC we were tied with Can't, but we had a better overall record. The week after we split (loss to Can't), we had no AP points and Can't got 3.Then we went 2-0 the next week, and Can't lost one. That's where we stand now. AP voting after last week, we got 8 AP points.Even though we have one more victory since then, and hopefully one more against Nevada on Friday, AP points wont change until this weekend.

Nevada has been ranked off and on this season. The AP poll is the legit one. To many coaches vote for teams in the conference, or teams they play during the season. In the coaches poll Nevada lost to UCLA and moved up. We are receiving the 28th most votes in the AP poll, so remember we are ranked on a few writers ballots. So beat Nevada and you will gain some serious votes.
