UADavid
CLEVELAND - University of Akron high jumper Tomasz Smialek (Tomaszow Mazowiecki, Poland/Pierwsze Liceum) was named the Mid-American Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. Smialek captured the high jump at Saturday's Sykes-Sabock Challenge with a school-record and NCAA automatic qualifying clearance of 7-03.75. The senior came into the Penn State meet with the top mark in the MAC (7-01-75) and now ranks tied for third on the NCAA qualifying list. Smialek snapped his own UA indoor record of 7-03.25 set on January 22, 2005.What a fantastic jump! If you've never seen a track meet at Akron, you're missing some great individual and team efforts. Our men and women programs are doing a great job. The women finished second at Penn St and the men tied for sixth. Keep up the good work. :macc: To the moderators, how about adding a pair of winged feet in the posts icon for the track team.
