Over 60 Division I football schools were below the 925 standard and didn't get penalized because they took the "squad size" clause. Marshall is one of them. The NCAA requires a 1.7 or higher GPA to be academically eligible for sports, but the MAC requires a 2.0 or higher GPA to be academically eligible. Therefore, the MAC is going to have a few more student-athletes reported as academically ineligible because they have a higher standard than the NCAA enforces. 7 MAC schools have a 70% or higher graduation rate according to the GSR. At least two of those with graduation rates at or higher than 70% had APR scores under 925 and were penalized. The GSR does not count it against a school if a kid transfers out during the school year and is in good academic standing. The APR does count it against you even though the kid was in good academic standing. What is more important, a higher graduation rate or an APR score that counts transfers in good academic standing against you? Obviously the NCAA currently things the APR is more important, but of course many BCS schools see less transfers than non-BCS schools.

The biggest thing that I understand is that Akron wasn't penalized and Toledo was. Thanks for your time, now to can go back to your little Toledo blog and tell them all how you put us in our places. :tomato:

msopher Posted on Mar 5 2006, 11:47 AM   I knew you guys weren't intelligent, but I at least thought you could read.
Since you say you can read, read this. Screw you msopher. :moon: We don't need that information. Post it on the tolooso site since they apparantly do need it. Six scholarships. You may be able to read but your comprehension is not up to snuff. :iws: Akron is :macc: :macc: :macc:

msoher i am not trying to jump on you too i do feel that you like the zips but your point about the mac making their student athletes carry a 2.0 gpa is pretty common with most dI conferences. if anything the mac's standards are a little low. with that being said many of the larger schools do have an advantage with larger budgets.... i feel for ut as they will have a slighty tougher time maintianing their program to their high standards. :screwks:

all i know is that akron didn't have a problem staying within the guidlines. make excuses for your retards all you want. what's the excuse for your convict tailback, he just wanted attention?
Retards? That's a bit inflamatory, don't ya think?I mean, we all know that most schools will recruit and give athletic scholarships to guys whose IQ may not be mensa because that want performance on the field or court. True, some schools try a little harder, or have slightly higher standards, but the phenomenon is still prevalent wherever you go. How much do you forgive academic standards if it increases athletic results? All I'm saying is, let's brag about performance & results on the field/court, and let's even brag if our atheletes have some academic successes compared to elsewhere, but let's not stoop to calling other school's atheletes "retards", even if msopher really would be wise to fight another battle, because his points sound like obvious rationalization and denial.

1 : to slow up especially by preventing or hindering advance or accomplishment : IMPEDE2 : to delay academic progress by failure to promoteIt may be harsh, but hardly inflammatory or in my opinion inaccurate. :)

Actually I think the MAC is one of few or the only conference which requires a 2.0

Seeing your name and the word "retard" together makes everything now a little more understanding. :iws:

Actually I think the MAC is one of few or the only conference which requires a 2.0 i would think that a person who likes to boast about one's acadmeic achievements would have no problem confronting their own university's lack of achievment. so these players are retarding their program's progress by losing scholarships and thus talent on the field. so therefore they are RETARDS! :iws:

Actually, I think msopher may be right about the MAC and the 2.0 thing...I am still sick of hearing about Toledo, however.

Wow, for a "Zips fan," you sure do take a beating over here, msopher.
Well since the Toledo board is generally idle right now, I gotta stir something up!
