There will be no lollygagging at the Mid-American tournament later this week. Everyone in attendance will know that weak nonconference results means there's only one tournament bid at stake -- it's this same intensity that produced the best game of last year's Championship Week, Ohio's 80-79 overtime thriller over Buffalo. Both teams will make repeat appearances in Cleveland by virtue of campus-site first round wins on Monday; Ohio is the No. 5-seed and Buffalo is the No. 8. If both post quarterfinal upsets on Thursday, we'll see a semifinal rematch. This year, though, is all about No. 1 Can't State (22-8, 15-3) and No. 3 Akron (21-8, 14-4), which glare at each other from opposite sides of the MAC bracket. The twin-division system means the No. 2-seed goes to 12-6 West champ Northern Illinois, but the East was the beast this year. The Golden flushes had the division clinched going into last weekend, but in the regular season finale, the Zips' 75-67 pullaway win over their close-by rivals sent a clear message: "Fear the Roo."
