Interesting Email

Not sure who else gets ZipMail (I know students who are on this board do), but I just recieved a VERY confusing and somewhat troubling email from the University. It reads:

Our shared responsibility to report any form of harassment

In light of recent events that are likely to become public, we want to remind the campus community of our shared responsibility to make The University of Akron a great place to work for each and every employee and an extraordinary experience for each and every student.

We urge every student, faculty and staff member to review our Sexual Harassment Policy (3359-11-13) and to be aware of the many forms of harassment that can create an intimidating or offensive environment, and, further, to be aware of our shared responsibility to report such unacceptable behavior:

  • Any complainant who is an employee should contact his or her immediate supervisor, or if the supervisor is the alleged perpetrator or unavailable, the vice president or head of the administrative unit. Students with a complaint should contact the Office of Student Judicial Affairs at 330-972-6380 or the Dean of Students at 330-972-6048. Any individual with a complaint may also contact the Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action office directly at 330-972-7300.
  • Any student, faculty or staff member who is contacted about or has knowledge of an incident or informal complaint of sexual harassment must report the incident/complaint to the appropriate University official or to the affirmative action officer as soon as possible at the number above.

Additionally, please be aware of our Conflict Resolution Services, available to all students, faculty and staff, to help mediate any workplace dispute before a situation escalates to a formal complaint. The service offers a confidential process in which a mediator from Human Resources facilitates communication and negotiation between parties to assist them in resolving any dispute.

The actions we take to resolve a workplace conflict or an employee complaint are intended to improve the working environment for each of our employees who work hard to deliver a positive experience for our students.

Comments/discussion below... should be an interesting news story once it gets unveiled.
