Dambrot

Dambrot to Cinci? Not likely. I agree (with Rasor!) that Akron is his dream job. That does not mean somewhere down the road he would leave for more money and fame. However, if MT was going to hire Dambrot to be the next coach he would not have hired a search firm. The bearcats are looking for (and will get) a big name coach to take over the program. JD to Cinci? Now no. But if the Zips keep winning and Cinci continues to struggle, I would not be surprised if his name is on a short list in two years.

Take it from a UC grad, it doesn't matter who goes to UC right now. Most alumni, and a lot of sponsors of the program refuse to support them until the hag (nancy zimpher) is gone and done ruining the program. We all took notice that MT did NOTHING to defend the team when they weren't selected to ge in, and most think it was done on purpose so that UC would have an excuse not to hire Andy Kennedy back.Whoever comes in will not be liked, by no fault of their own, just because that's whats going on down there right now. I don't know how much KD would be influenced by the $$ they would offer, but I don't know what he makes here either. If I were KD and wanted that job, I would demand that zimpher must be gone first or I wouldn't take the position. She will make the basketball job crappy for anyone until she leaves (she doesn't give a crap about sports).

Dambrot is not leaving for Cinci. Mostly because making it to the NIT is great for Akron but what MT probably has in mind for hiring a head coach. The Cinci fans are anxious, but who are they going to hire in the middle of the season or before the tournament is done. Most schools do their hiring process during the Final Four and postseason play. Do you want a coach who has been sitting out all year? Or, an up and comer whose team may or may not of won a game in the Big Dance?

There was a rumor in the PD today about Christian to Rhode Island. By the way Heath and Hipsher are in the big dance -- how come nobody here is congratulating them? ;)
I was talking to a Can't fan at the Q the other night and he told me that Christian is being considered by a school on the East Coast. The guy told me he thought it was pretty much guaranteed Christian was gone after this year. Rhode Island may be a match since he played for the Rams and graduated from there.

Not a hard decision after they lose two scholarships.

Dambrot's not going anywhere. Thomas will hire a big coach for you guys. Except for his first coaching hire here (women's basketball) his hiring was great. As far as liking Thomas, I think the general consensus around here was the guy was a get it done kind of administrator. Akron athletics is a completely different enterprise than before he got here. He hired great coaches and great administrators, too - Waddel for one but also several others that had a clue about what Division 1 athletics was supposed to look like. Thomas and talking, I didn't think he said much publicly about his job, and during coaching searches he was pretty silent. I think the writer at the Plain Dealer was extremely ticked at him for not revealing names on the football search, but that's just how he did business here.In my opinion, his greatest feats here were five-fold:1) Hiring of Brookhart and Dambrot. I think he identifies very strong coaches. I heard both of these guys loved working for him and trusted him implicitly.2) Getting that damn fieldhouse started and completed. That thing was dead in the water before he got here. Now it's one of our biggest recruiting draws, and not just for football. If UC doesn't have one of those, you should get one. I can't believe the mileage we're getting out of it. What a great investment.3) Hiring and management of his staff. He had to get rid of several dead weighters in the first year he was here. HUGE improvement (again, including Waddel).4) Fundraising. Before he left I was told they'd raised a very large amount of the money needed to build the new stadium. 5) Raising the bar in every category. We jumped from last to almost the top in academics and we're winning conference championships in several sports, including football. Can't complain about that. That said, I think we have hired another winner in Mack Rhoades. But you're very very lucky to get Thomas. We always knew he'd leave one day for greener pastures. Maybe you guys are big time enough that he'll stay for longer than five years.
