Is the Beacon Journal on McClatchy's chopping block??? I'm thinking it's likely to be one of the 11 or 12. If so, who are prospective buyers????? It would be nice to see someone buy this paper and improve it. Make it a paper for the Akron community, not the Columbus community. OSU articles, booooo.

Yes, there was a big article in the paper on Monday. The Knight Rider papers are in the process of being sold to McClatchy and the sale has already been approved on both sides by upper tier/majority stock holders. McClatchy has identified 12 out of 32 Knight Rider papers that it is not interested in maintaining and will be sold off. The Beacon IS one of the 12 making their future very unstable. The article did not go into any detail about who might eventually purchase the Beacon from McClatchy. It did state very firmly that McClatchy does not have the Beacon in their future plans.It definitely sounds like the Beacon will be undergoing major changes within the next year. I hope the paper makes it thru all the changes but I guess it’s not out of the realm of possibilities that this is the beginning of the end.Beacon Sale Article - Click Me
