bobbyake
Akron should be favored to win the MAC East this year. The west is the MAC powerhouse even without Bowling Green. Toledo and Northern Ill. will both have good teams that represent the MAC well in non-conference play. Akron's real only challenge is Miami U, and Bowling Green. Both teams have new starting quarterbacks so things are looking bright for another bowl game.
fear the brown roo
i thought BG was going back to the west this year?
Valpo Zip
I don't think that BG is any threat but if you ask me, i think that Miami is the big team in the east !
gozips19
bg stays in the east for now. once temple joins the mac for football i think that the league will reopen that topic. yes we should be the fav. for the east but lets not look past ohio. the didn't loose much from a team that was ok and has good coaching. with that being said bgsu and mu should be taking a step back with bgsu loosing more than miami. mu will still be a very good team and if they can get their offense going early with a new qb could be dangerous ( much like our situation last year) should be a great year for the zips though! liljc
I see Ohio being mentioned more and more, but I don't believe they will be a factor this year or next for that matter. They were terrible here at the Rubber Bowl last season and from what I could tell, their recruiting classes haven't been as strong as ours or Miami's either. I am sure they'll be better than Can't and Buffalo, but a contender? I'll have to see it to believe it.
fear the brown roo
miami is the biggest threat unitl we can actually beat them. they seem to have our number. i can't think of anything sweeter than destroying those arrogant bastards this year. we still can't afford to take anyone lightly. last year we were the luckiest team in the mac, this year we need to be the best. :macc:
ZipDad57
Lucky? The definition of luck, is where preperation and opportunity meet. Since the players and coaches are working their tails off, then I believe we'll be lucky again. :macc:
liljc
When you win a division title by virtue of a tie-breaker, you gotta say you were a bit lucky. This season will be different. Expectations are high and I feel like Brookhart will have the boys ready when the time comes. He had them playing their best football at the end on the season in '05 and certainly succeded in motivating them at crunch time. :macc: Summer isn't even on the horizon, yet, and I can't wait for football season. Sick, huh?
fear the brown roo
nothing wrong with being lucky. no slam against the zips and their hard work. i watched enough practices to know the work ethic. they clearly over acheived last year but i feel this year they will be the best team in the mac. :macc:
Valpo Zip
I can't wait for football season. Sick, huh? Quickzips
Just some thoughts on the East:-Zips: Returning a solid core of veterans and bringing in some exciting youngsters. With head coach JD Brookhardt at the helm this program should be fun to watch. Depending on how well some of the youngsters at WR, RB and LB step up this season easily the favorite in the East.-BG: They still don't have much in terms of a defense and their offense is losing a number of high quality weapons not the least of which is Omar Jacobs. Add on top of that that Jacobs replacement is having some legal problems and the Falcons are on shaky ground to say the least.-Miami: Losing some veterans but they always seem to re-load. Until further notice they are still one of the teams to beat. Some might say that how well their new QB plays will determine their season but the Redhawks have plenty of talent in plenty of positions to make some noise.-Ohio: Why is everyone on Ohio's balls all of a sudden? They didn't have the talent to run Solich's power option football last year and they won't have it ready this year. So they beat Pitt last year. Big deal. Plenty of MAC teams can beat up on the cellar dwellers of the Big East. -Buffalo: New coach but same old players. Buffalo will probably be a little more competitive as they have a pretty decent defensive core but they will need to learn how to put a few points on the board before anyone in the MAC really takes them seriously.-Can't: Are they still fielding football???
