New MAC Schools?

Recommended Posts

I've read discussions indicating that the MAC is looking to add member schools. Anyone have opionions as to which schools would be best to invite?I think Temple and Southern Illinois would be best. Both universities are public institutions and some notable perspectives on both of them are subsequently presented below.Temple's football program is in shambles although we've already accepted this program into the MAC. However, the rest of the school's athletic programs seem to be quality and its academics are commensurate with those offered at UA. Temple enrolls ~28,000 students on its main and medical campuses and also has international campuses in Tokyo and Rome.Southern Illinois's basketball team speaks for itself and has a quality D-IAA football program that would have to be converted over to I-A for the transition. In terms of student population and academic offerings, SIU is comparable to UA. I couldn't find enrollment figures for SIU's dual main campuses in Carbondale and Edwardsville. It should be noted that both of these universities have medical schools whereas no current member of the MAC does (no, NEOUCOM and MCO don't count). Both universities also have dentistry programs and Temple has a school of pharmacy. :macc: :screwks:

The University, beginning on July 1, 2006, will be the first MAC school to have their own Medical School. Toledo is now one of only 17 institutions in the country that has their own Law School, Medical School, Engineering School and Pharmacy School.

Perhaps Toledo should invest more in proctology. So they can help pull their students heads out of their asses.

The MAC does not need to add schools at this time. The potential Big East breakup will lead to some conference changes, but why add YSU or SIU? The MAC ranks near the bottom of DI-A football, why bring in two project schools with I-AA? Why move to 15 schools in football? None of this makes any sense for the conference. The MAC is not going to add any schools at this point. If a member institution moves conferences, the addition of Temple as a full member would make sense.

if we keep adding teams, then I think we should treat each side of the MAC as seperate conferences when it comes to championships. In other words, both East and West should get their own bowl bids as champions, and not necessarily have to play each other for one bowl bid. Also, if we have 20 teams (twice as many teams as most conferences), why should our BBteams all go to the same conference tournament where only one champ results?
