VanDelay's 2006 Akron football preview

Recommended Posts

I think Toledo has a great chance in both of their OOC games. Kansas is not a powerhouse and is playing in Toledo. Pitt lost to Ohio last season and Ohio was not nearly as strong at Toledo last year.I like any prediction that has the Zips returning to Detroit. I think the Zips will return to the MACC and win again. This years team will be better than last. I think most Zips fans realize that this team is still on its way up. It was not a lucky or fluke year. JD is building a program that will compete with the BCS schools.I think Vandeley's prediction of a CMU win has some validity. Akron has struggled at Mount Pleasant. Even years I thought we would crush CMU, they play tough at home and seem to pull out wins. I don't think Ohio will be the factor that some are predicting. They might be better than last year, but Zips are improving at a faster rate. Last year was a blowout and I think the gap is getting bigger this year. North Texas is in the Sun Belt and went something like 2-9 last season. They are playing in Akron. I don't see them coming with 20 points.I don't want to get my hopes up to high, but I think 9-3 is realistic. I think we will take losses to Penn State, Central Michigan, and Toledo with the rest of the games being wins. A 6-2 conference record with an additional win in the MACC.GO ZIPS!!

Toledo won't beat kansas or Pitt. What a joke! Akron's going to lose to Central Michigan and Ohio, but beat North Texas???
Iowa State and Pittsburgh are going to be really tough games for Toledo. Kansas will be too, but it is at Toledo and the Rockets are 34-2 at home since mid-way through the 1999 season with a 3-0 record at home against Top 25 teams in that span.North Texas is not as good as Central Michigan. Ohio is still a question mark. Everyone expects them to be better because of Solich......I'm not buying it just yet.Your game against NC State could be a huge upset for the MAC as I expect you guys to pull off the win.

No matter what, Toledo is gonna play tough. I think Toledo scares any team in the country. It seems to me that OU has been predicted to have a "Breakout Year!" for about the past 10 years. I'm still waiting.......... As for CMU, sorry to say it guys, they've got our number. Charlie had to come from behind two years ago in a great win, but we can't seem to pull out the other games. They've got a great coach and I expect a battle in Mount Pleasant. I hope we don't get blown out in Happy Valley (Seems to be a theme recently) and we play a good game against NC State (an upset would be nice).
