tomzip
As I watch UCONN and UM knock three's down from all over to advance deep into the tourny, I can't help but think about Kwan, Kretzer, and Reggie out there on the floor next year at the same time and hopefully able to stretch the D. I really would love to a 6'9" guy like Kwan be able to go inside and out; that would cause major problems in the MAC. Would love for that to be a focus next year, the three is incredibly destructive, I just hate those two teams I mentioned and they can't miss from the outside. (I hope I jinxed UM by the way by posting this)
Dave in Green
You almost got Michigan there with your jinx. They went cold at the end and almost gave it away.If you live by the 3 you'll eventually die by the 3. Ask Creighton, the best 3-point shooting team in college basketball this season. They averaged 41.4% as a team. They annihilated some teams when they were on. In the NCAA tournament, they went dead cold against Baylor and were blown out by 30 points. Even the best 3-point shooters tend to be streaky, and you can start shooting blanks at the worst possible times. The lesson is not to rely too heavily on the 3 or any other single offensive weapon. The best offensive strategy is to have both outside and inside games, and switch over to whatever's working best in any given game. Back that up with a tough defense that can shut down another team's offense when your offense is having trouble scoring, and you have the best of all worlds. I'd like to see the Zips have a diversified offense next season along with a lock-down defense when needed.

Even if you hit the incredible rate of 40%, that means you could hit a few, and then miss 4 or 5 in a row. That stretch of 4 or 5 misses, mixed in with a few turnovers, and you could have enough consecutive empty trips up the floor to cost you a game, no matter when it happens. You must be able to find more reliable (higher percentage) ways to score.
GJGood
One of, if not the, best things about a really good three point shooting team is that their inside guys have more room to work and get easy two pointers because the defense has to be more spread out. Dave in Green
Anyone who enjoys watching players sink the 3-point shot will enjoy reading this detailed description of how a skinny little kid who many thought wouldn't make it in college ball is redefining the long ball in the NBA.
