Anyone know the story behind this guy?

Recommended Posts

Man I remember seeing a deranged black guy holding a sign outside the games holding a sign that reads "Akron Exploits Black Athletes".....He never even changed his sign it was the exact same one for like a 5 year period, I was just curious if anyone seen this clown around. Being a former UA black athlete I used to wonder what the hell was his problem?

There was an article about him in the paper a few years ago. His son was a good bball player, started at Buchtel, the Dad got in a fight with the coach (Andre Sims Dad I think) and he transferred to Tallmadge. He wanted his son to play guard at Buchtel so that he could get looks for college. Given that he was the tallest guy on the team, they played him down low. Seemed that he was just angry at the world and was mad about the Coleman Crawford firing and no head coaches were black.

I talked to him once (2 years ago) and i asked him why he thought that Akron exploits black athletes and his answer was so funny. He said: " the university makes the big bucks and the athletes get nothing but a stingy scholarship."I told him that these are the rules and that the university cannot pay them more because they are student athletes and not pros so then he said: why doesn't the university hire black coaches and administrative people.

Reminds me of a few years ago, a guy was standing outside of the BankOne building downtown holding a sign that said, "Don't bank at Bank One."I thought! "Oooh! A protester! What's his crusade?" So I asked him why he was protesting against Bank One."They screwed me out of some money."Oh.

I could see that argument at columbus state. But Akron is not exactly making millions off the athletic program.

ZipBoy summed it up for me. If you get a scholarship to Akron, you are getting a damn good deal if you decide to use it! I paid to go to school while I was shooting. While I was studying my @$$ off I would occasionally get hit by one of the paper airplanes that some of the scholarship athletes would be tossing about.....and it wasn't exactly a quiet study environment either. It's not like the University can pull the scholarship from you if you get injured playing and can't compete anymore. You're getting a free college education, use it.
