zips1984 Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 Does it seem that Cleveland State is now the University of Akron. Did CSU fold as two of their coaches are now coaches at Akron - softball and golf. I never knew they are a powerhouse. How does everyone feel about the new coaches in softball, women's basketball, tennis, soccer and golf. I think they did well in soccer and women's basketball but not too sure about golf and softball along with tennis. In tennis, we probably have the most educated coach. How does one have a law degree and end up being a women's tennis coach in Akron. At least, we will never be sued. Quote
ziptrumpet87 Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 I was wondering how much economics had to do with that. They won't have to pay to relocate... they are coaches of "minor" sports so they don't get paid much anyway... our budget is bigger than CSU's so we should be able to pay more... sounds like a step up for the coaches anyway... they already know the local area for recruiting... maybe these are just random thoughts, but still Quote
UAZipster0305 Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 I'll never hesitate to second the notion! Quote
zipboy Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 Out of all the new hires, I am most excited about womens bball and tennis. Both coaches had div 1 turnaround success stories in short times. Swimming hired a top assistant from a power school, typically what we have done in the past. Those hire hae large upside but large downside. Softball and golf were safe hires. Both showed they could win at csu but neither clearly dominated at csu. There will be a better budget and better facilities but also tougher competition. Both have local ties. If we end up winning the MAC every 5th year and are competitive in the other years in those sports, everyone will probably be happy. Quote
