midlandchip Posted September 10, 2006 Report Posted September 10, 2006 After your great win over NC State today I have to say I am really looking forward to our game next Saturday in Mt. Pleasant. Some time ago I stated on one of our message boards that I was not concerned about this game - I thought we would win going away. I saw the CMU-Akron game last year and felt we had no trouble winning that one. I didn't see why it should be any different this year, especially since we have home field advantage. But after you knocked off NC State I have had to shift my position - I'm a little worried. In any event, it should be a big time game and I can't wait to watch some competitive MAC football. Hope to see a few Akron fans in Mt. Pleasant. Quote
Dan Kadar Posted September 10, 2006 Report Posted September 10, 2006 Trap game! Well, I hope not. I like CMU, so this game scares me. I really wish it was on TV, even on ONN. Quote
Valpo Zip Posted September 10, 2006 Report Posted September 10, 2006 after you knocked off NC State I have had to shift my position - I'm a little worried. I think that you should be worried, in fact you should be scared... you should FEAR THE ROO !We also know that the game with you won't be easy at all... but we will win it Quote
RACER Posted September 10, 2006 Report Posted September 10, 2006 as an akron fan. this is a huge trap game. coming off our biggest win in probabably school history. plus playing on the road at cmu would not be easy anyways.i have been impressed with our defense to hold two bcs teams to under 300 yards total offense if pretty good.go akron Quote
bobbyake Posted September 10, 2006 Report Posted September 10, 2006 I'm more worried about Western Michigan than I am against Central Michigan. Did you see what they did to Toledo????? Ohio beat Northern Illinios, Buffalo almost beat Bowling Green??? What is going on in the MAC, Miami looked good today. Quote
RACER Posted September 10, 2006 Report Posted September 10, 2006 this is definately one strange season so far. ohio also beat niu. toldeo ,and niu usually dont both lose in the mac the same day.buffalo seems to be competitive. who knows what to think of miami? northwestern got beat by a 1-aa team today.i think you may be able to lose a few games in the mac divisions, and still win it all this year. as the year goes on the weather always plays a factor in some games to.go akron. ZipAnalyst Posted September 10, 2006 Report Posted September 10, 2006 If JD is making the progress he says he is, winning this game will be the proof of the puddng.Last year the Zips were ahead 17-0 when the wheels came off. But losing that lead and losing to a less than good Army team and the goofed up last play call at Ball State combined to be a big wake up call to the Zips and Brookhart. And the Zips have awakened and appear to be spiking upward!Progress this year will be evidenced by beating the CMUs, Buffalos and Bowling Greens comfortably. To get consistent national notice the Zips will have to the creme-de-la-creme of the MAC.The Central Michigan game will be an indicator of whether or not the Zips are on their way to establishing themselves as the class of the MAC Quote
bobbyake Posted September 10, 2006 Report Posted September 10, 2006 This year, Akron's strength is the run, and run defense. The bad weather is going to be our benefit. Quote
Buckzip Posted September 10, 2006 Report Posted September 10, 2006 No let down, please. As great as the win is, the real season starts now in the MAC. Quote
bobbyake Posted September 10, 2006 Report Posted September 10, 2006 Central Michigan looked good against BC, but not so good against Michigan. The Zips looked good against Penn State, but better against NC State.Central passes a lot which scares me because the pass defense didn't look so good against NC State in the 2nd half. I think we're going to run all over them and it's going to be a high scoring game. Quote
Zipsrifle Posted September 10, 2006 Report Posted September 10, 2006 I've got to tell you guys, we had BETTER have our ducks in a row at Central. IMO, they are the best team in the MAC West right now. I may be a little biased because I live near Flint and hear about the Chips a few times a week. They gave BC all they could handle, and BC knocked off #18 Clemson yesterday. Though I was only watching the CMU, UofM game out of the corner of my eye, they looked pretty good yesterday. Finally, CMU finished strong last season and has had our number in recent years. Central has won 4 of the last 5 meetings against us. Coach Kelley knows how to win (took GVSU to the National Championship), and IMO is on Par with JD. NO WAY JD is overlooking this one. I have to believe that everyone on the team and staff knows this is a critical game. I think CMU is at the same talent and coaching level as Akron, and we are at their place. Our kid is due any day now, so it looks doubtful I will be able to make the game. Hopefully I can find it on TV somewhere! Quote
Buckzip Posted September 10, 2006 Report Posted September 10, 2006 If this isn't a letdown, we should win. Quote
