KentZip Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 Recruit from last year is at prep school and this article says we are being outworked for his services now that he is a full qualifier - disappointing if true.http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news?slug=ri...tory_recruiting Quote
Buckzip Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 The only reason he commited here was because the big schools backed off of him because of his grades. If you go to the Rivals site, he doesn't even list Akron. He chose Akron to have a backup plan in case he qualified late. I have said it before, and get yelled at about it. Look at our top recruits over the last 3 years. Many of them are not on the team. We offer guys that the big schools won't. Then most of them never qualify, and we lose out. However, on national signing day we look like we have a good class. Sure, some qualify, but the percentage is not very good. It's true that "most" teams have some non qualifiers, but ours are more than "most".Captain, I didn't start the thread. Quote
gozips19 Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 heres another update on mark jackson click mefor those that don't have rivals mark is trying in enroll for spring and has offers from mich. oklahoma ill. and possible the bucks. very little mention of akron so it doesn't look good Quote
zff Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 He has two choices:He can come to Akron and start or he can go to a BCS school and take the risk of riding the bench......... I guess he would rather ride the bench then play 4 years. That is his mistake. I would much rather have a slighty less rated player that wants to be at Akron than him. Quote
Buckzip Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 Why are you so sure he will ride the pine?Look at it another way.He is a top rated lineman. He could come here and play but not develop into an NFL player, or go to a BCS school, and have a chance to go to the NFL.There are no guarantees either way. However, if any player truly believes he is good enough to get to the NFL, you want to go the the best program available.I don't know how good this guy is. However, he was one of the top rated centers in the nation coming out of high school. Quote
zff Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 I am not saying he is going to ride the bench for sure but here is my logic. He was a three star player last year. 3 star players are the max for the Zips. Maybe we get one 4 star player every 5 years. Now at a BCS school 3 star players are about the lowest rated player thye get. So he will be fighting for a job with 4 and 5 star players. My point is there will always be a high rated player for his position coming in year after year.Look at Eric Haw from OSU he saw the writing on the wall. He came out of high school and looked to make an impact for the Suckeyes. He got pasted on the depth chart and was riding the bench. Then OSU gets the kid from Garfield and Haw is like damn If I want to play I need to go some place else. So now he is gone...... Quote
Buckzip Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 Since you brought it up, the star rankings don't mean everything.AJ Hawk was a 3*. Malcolm Jenkins was a 3* too. A lot of it has to do with the development of the player. That doesn't happen at Akron.I get your point. We can say the same things about a lot of players. However, if the guy dreams, and thinks he has a shot at the NFL, he knows his chances are better at a BCS school than Akron. Unfortunately these guys do what they feel is best for them, not for us.
