Guest nashvillegoldenflash Posted July 16, 2004 Report Posted July 16, 2004 On a Middle Tennessee message board, there has been some interest in exploring the nightlife of the city of Akron. I was hoping I could get some suggestions from some of the local residents on places worth going to after the Akron-MT game. One poster has stated that he intends to visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton on Sunday. Where do most people like to go after the games in Akron? I personally do not intend to attend the game but just wanted to help out others who will be making the trip to Akron. As an Ohioan, I certainly hope that the people of Akron will be extremely hospitable to the MT folks. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Quote
zipper Posted July 16, 2004 Report Posted July 16, 2004 So much to do, so little time. It's hard to guess what people are interested in, but the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame is right up the road in Cleveland. Pro Football Hall of Fame is always a good idea, too. Piscatelli's is a nice restaurant right by the Rubber Bowl. You can watch the planes land at our small airstrip there - and gawk at the blimp hanger. Ask for a view when you make the reservation. Jillians is casual fun atmosphere - pool, drinks, burgers etc. - sports bar feel. It's on Main street downtown not far from the University. There are a number of upscale clubs and restaurants downtown - the "feel" of downtown Akron has really changed in the last few years. Two Amigos in Highland Square (on W. Market) is about five minutes from downtown and excellent Mexican. If you love good reasonable Italian, Luigi's is an Akron landmark. There WILL be a wait at the door. Go ahead and wait. It moves very quickly. The bread is fresh - and get the salad with cheese on it. Spaghetti Warehouse is right downtown and good, too. I'm sure everyone else on here has other ideas. Sorry about your loss, but welcome to Akron! Quote
I_Miss_You_Trey_71603 Posted July 16, 2004 Report Posted July 16, 2004 If you are looking for something fast and good Swensons is awesome! You don't have to get out of your car. Belgrades is good but I don't know exactly how close that is. Luigi's has been a favorite of mine and Spaghetti Warehouse is awesome as well. Quote
Guest Guest Posted July 17, 2004 Report Posted July 17, 2004 Thanks for your suugestions. I have passed this information on to the folks who will be making the trip to Akron. Although I have never been to Cafe Piscatelli, I know that it is a former terminal of the Akron Airport that has been transformed into a delightly classic restaurant overlooking the airstrip and the old Goodyear Air Dock, where the blimps were manufactured. I found two photos of Cafe Piscatelli on webshots.com and included them with your suggestions. You can view them by clicking on the following links. http://community.webshots.com/photo/136160...03731blwTQMPOEW http://community.webshots.com/photo/136160...20913UBEuxSjfsv I explained to the Middle Tennessee folks that most of Akron is very old but many parts of it have been restored. While in Akron, I suggested that they also might want to check out the Crown Plaza Hotel that was originally the storage silos of the old Quaker Oats factory. I also gave them links to two photos of the hotel. http://community.webshots.com/photo/136160...19077qNCqQzujPe http://community.webshots.com/photo/136160...19580RftBRwXOVT When I attended Can't State, I enjoyed going to Quaker Square. Are the shops still there? I always thought it was such a unique place. How clever it was to turn those storage silos into a hotel and shops. Awesome! Thanks again for your input. I hope the folks from MT will enjoy their stay in MAC Country. I am sure some of the people making the trip will also check out UA while they are there. Quote
