Zipsrifle
I haven't been around much, but I've got to make a post about the Rifle team. They are on an absolute tear this season. They are still undefeated, a bit less than 1/2 way through the season! Even more amazing, the Gold and Blue teams have nailed down 1st and 2nd place in all but 1 match. You'll all be glad to know that the Zips have proven that last season was just an anamoly, as they regain their dominance over Ohio State. And I am again, very happy to announce that they knocked off Morehead State this past weekend (I can tell the story again if anyone is interested). As usual, coach is having a hard time picking the best shooters for the 1st and 2nd teams....there are just too many good shooters, all at about the same level. Take a look at the webpage of the best team on campus!Great job folks, keep up the good work! Akron Zips RifleA brief look at the results:Boilermaker Invitational:Team Results:1. goodthts
Congrats! My only question has to do with life after the Rifle Team. I imagine there's no professional league you could get drafted into, is there? What is in the cards for an All-American Collegiate shooter after college? The Vice-Presidency?Just asking. Also, noticed our female rifleteam roster is twice as big as our male roster. Very interesting.GO ZIPS....ALL ZIPS!

Become a trainer for the military? Is rifle itself an Olympic sport or only as half of the biathlon? I guess no one would mess with you if they knew your girlfriend was a collegiate shooting champ

zippyrifle32
rifle is an olympic sport in the summer games and biathlon is acutally under skiing for the winter games. on the men's side there are three events and on the women's side there are two events. after college, some people are able to join the army and get into the army marksmanship unit which is the closest thing to becoming a professional shooter as you're going to get. other national level shooters head out to the olympic training center in colorado springs to live and train for the olympics. most rifle shooters though, graduate and go on with careers and their lives. some stick around the sport by shooting matches at their own expense or coaching juniors. thanks for the support, and in addition to us being undefeated, our freshman marybeth brewer has been invited to a national level air rifle camp out at the otc. after the camp she will have the opportunity to shoot a selection match with a chance to go to the pan am games. it's a very exciting time to be a zips shooter.
