Field House visit today

Recommended Posts

My son had a lacrosse camp at the Field House today.Sitting with some other fathers in the stands, the conversation turned to Zips football and recruiting. I mentioned to them the story I had heard that Coach Brookhart likes to walk into the facility backwards in front of recruits and watch the looks on their faces as they see the facility for the first time. Yada, yada... the topic changes and we are on to something else.No more than five minutes later (we were seated in the pullout stands), Coach Brookhart comes walking into the facility backwards talking and gesturing with his hands. At this point, he could have been talking to the janitor for all we knew. Seconds later, at least 7 recruits along with their families came walking into the Field House with their eyes turned up and some generally amazed looks on their faces. Cue the Twilight Zone music!!When JD passed the recruits over to Coach Bailey for a tour of the weight room, I took the opportunity to introduce myself to Coach Brookhart. Later, I talked to Coach Bailey. He mentioned that several of todays recruits were linemen candidates which is a relief to me. Both of them were as personable as could be and I left today with an even higher regard for the football program than when I arrived. B)

Hello:We were one of the recruit's families on the day you spoke of. Our son was a recruit for the OL.. This was not the first time we were there as we visited last April for Junior day and in July for a one camp. Even though it wasn't our first time there, we were still awed with the field house. We were also very impressed with JD and all the coaches. We felt they were very personable and very excited about the football program at Akron. Needless to say, our son accepted an offer on the OL that weekend.Thank you for posting that story because it confirmed our feelings about the football organization there.Go Zips!

jronzmn, welcome! JD and his staff (as well as our other coaches in other sports) have raised the level of professionalism and class (not to mention talent!) of this University's athletics programs. Many of us here have witnessed Akron sports for many years and we speak from experience. It sounds like you got a taste of it recently!
