Zips @ Pitt 2007??

I agree with zipsbandman. Get however a 1AA ( historical black college team) on the home schedule ANNUALLY. Guranteed win, lotsa NEO publicity, great halftime show, and lotsa fannies (20,00 plus) in the seats. I know there are some on this board who believe the Zips should not belittle themselves by playing a 1AA school. It does not appear however that Florida, Florida State, or the U have a problem beating up on FAMU and Bethune Cookman on an annual basis. Moreover, I have never heard any of them complain about having the 1AA win count toward their national ranking.

YSU has already said.. the only we play Akron or Can't is if its a home and home, or an away-home-away series for YSU.So no matter what: only way you can increase your attendance at the expense of Youngstown, would be having to come here!
Sorry...not gonna happen.
Love to know why??? YSU already outdraws Akron in attendance..... and it would benefit each school....... greatly! It has happened in the 80s and 90s.... Why Not Now???

Eguins, can you point to any examples of a I-A school playing at a I-AA school? I can't think of any but I don't follow I-AA that close. I am not in favor of scheduling I-AA schools unless a last resort. Last year we pulled in North Texas and that was a good fit for an easier win. I would rather play see the MAC set up a deal with C-USA or the Sun Belt for a series. If we win against a I-AA, we were supposed to-if we lose, big embarrassment. How about East Carolina, Memphis, Marshall, Middle Tennesse, FIU or UCF, I think these schools would be better fits.

Would YSU sign a home and home deal with a D2 team?

I think the Sun Belt makes for some good matchups for us. Middle Tennessee plays well against us (beat us Charlie Frye's senior year). Arkansas State was a bowl team two years ago, and beat N. Texas 29-10 this year (a similar score to our game with N. Texas). And Troy State tied with MTSU for that league title this year. They do have some teams that are just as good as MAC teams. N. Texas had a bad year this year, so that worked out well for us.

Both Division I Now my friend... Buffalo and Can't and Akron came to Youngstown in the 80s and 90s; who's to say it can't happen now.YSU seats 22,000... Akron seats 30,000. YSU averages more in attendance.... has for years though. It will only help the attendance of each school. Akron tried to schedule YSU this past season, but YSU said only way that happens is if you come here to play too. Why? YOU BACKED OUT OF OUR DAMN STEEL-TIRE RIVALY IN 1995 AFTER YSU WON 3 IN A ROW; INCLUDING IN 1994 WHEN YSU WON @ YSU 41-7!Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steel_Tire

Akron is Division I-A and YSU is Division I-AA and there is a big difference.  When was the last time any Division I-A school played at a I-AA?
Tell that to the guy from YSU.Did the NCAA rename D-IAA to some kind of a Division I title?I've heard this on a couple of boards. Not that I-AA is on the same level as IA, just calling it something else doesn't mean anything.

Who knows, YSU gets more people to the game than many MAC Schools, and I know quite a few have come to Stambaugh over the years, including Akron-Can't and Buffalo off the top of my head.... Ohio, FIU, Cincy, UCF, Marshall have all played here as well. And remember these scores: before you say their is a big difference.I-AA Montana St. beat ColoradoI-AA Southern Illinois beat IndianaI-AA New Hampshire beat NorthwesternI-AA Richmond beat DukeI-AA Cal-Poly beat San Diego St.I-AA UMASS Lost 21-20 to Navy----awful close!I-AA NDSU, new to I-AA; Lost 10-9 to Minnesota----even closer! With transfers nowadays, the competition is not as big as it once was, at least for YSU that is. We have 15 I-A Transfers. And o ya: I-AA is now called the Division 1 Playoff Subdivision. And congrats to Appalachian St. for winning THE DIVISION 1 CHAMPIONSHIP!

Eguins, I found only two examples of any MAC school playing YSU in the last decade at your place. (1997 Buffalo and 1997 Can't). I respect the fact that YSU is a national force at the I-AA level and Mount Union is a national force at DIII, but there is difference between the divisions. The last times the Zips have paid a DI-AA school to come in have been blowouts. (2003 Akron 45 Cal Poly 14 (they were nationally ranked at the time), Akron 65 Howard 7 (we had our subs in the 2nd quarter), and 2002 Akron 49 Liberty 21. I am not saying your team is not good, but I-A's don't travel to I-AA's. I don't care if we play any I-AA team ever again, but to ask Akron to do something no other I-A school is expected to do is crazy. The Zips don't need the road game and will be better off doing home-away series with other I-A confereces.

You forget about the Steel Tire Rivalry. If Akron didn't run out of that series, it would be back and forth between Akron and Youngstown every year. Throw out the I-A/I-AA Argument. When you are rivals, with a series going on, you do not just quit it because your opponent had won 3 in a row against you.And once again: YSU Draws more than Akron! That alone would be reason enough to have a game here. I know you guys won't like it, but why not, you struggle to get 10,000 at your place, while YSU gets 17,000 each week.THE ONLY PLACE AKRON WILL BENEFIT OFF YOUNGSTOWN FANS DRIVING 45 MINUTES TO THE RUBBER BOWL WOULD BE TO HAVE AKRON FANS COME TO YOUNGSTOWN.... PERIOD!Your AD Knows damn well you need to get that 15,000 a year mark, as well as Terry Pluto of the ABJ.... And even he says to play Youngstown, somehow someway....O ya... Howard-Liberty each suck....and Cal Poly was not all that good in 02; when they were ranked.STEEL TIRE RIVALRY

:zzz::zzz::zzz: Lets move on to something else...shall we?Move up to IA and stop your bitching...then we'll play you OK?:cry::cry: You find fault with everyone but the people who can move you up a division...your own administration. Stop blaming everyone else already. We weren't in a conference when we made the jump..just go ahead and do it already for crying out loud (which is what you do very well).

Akron and Can't both want to play YSU. I belive they will pay YSU close to $100,000 to do so. Thats a good investment by Akron and Can't, the YSU fans would come in a group of 8-10,000 people. YSU brought something like 9,000 fans to Pittsburgh 2 years ago. They brought over 3,000 to Penn State this season outdrwaing Akron :wall::wall::wall::wall: So by brining in YSU I would raise our payment to the school. Pitt played YSU for $250,000, Penn State paid 400,000 and I hear YSU and Ohio State's contract is in the millions. I think Pitt is going to up thier payment to play YSU again, so if we want a sold out rubber bowl and a forsure victory were going to have to raise our total we would give YSU for playing us. It would be great to see a lot of YSU fans at the Rubber bowl, and even greater to see them all leave at halftime. Ohh well we would have thier money
