zipsbandman Posted January 3, 2007 Report Share Posted January 3, 2007 Wow all I can say is Boise State has really stole the show this bowl season and has shown that Cinderella teams can make their mark in college football. Many are saying the Fiesta Bowl was the greatest college game witnessed, and it even stole some of the luster of the OSU/Florida matchup. Of course its our dream to one day see Akron in a BCS bowl or any other MAC school for that matter. It seems that everyone in the nation pulls for the little guy. What would it take and can it be done?? A team would surely have to go undefeated and that means defeating formidable big ten opponents on the road at the start of the season and we all know how hard that is. I'm sure the new facilities and new stadium complex will increase our potential as a program. We're holding our own with the worst stadium in the MAC right now. That should be just enough to get us into a BCS game. Then we would have to win the bowl game against one of the top 10 teams in the country. Getting there is not enough. The only way to earn the respect of the "big boys" is by beating them on a consistant basis, like Gonzaga does in basketball. Boise State did it, and TCU would have done it last year if the new rules were in place. They proved that it can be done, now it is up to us to actually do it. Miami blew it with their one loss to Iowa 4-5 years ago. After watching the Boise State game and thinking about our season, I realized that we should never have worried about JD going to another school. Z.I.P. Posted January 6, 2007 Report Share Posted January 6, 2007 Here's an interesting point about Boise State: Their overall athletic budget was about 13M three years ago -- its now about 15M. That is SOLID MAC Country.No reason a program like Akron can't repeat what they've done -- and their basketball pretty much sucks.
