MACReport Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 I just posted a piece on MAC Report Online analyzing MAC football coaches salaries which also included a breakdown of Brian Kelly's new deal at UC after receiving a copy of his contract. Most disheartening though is the fact that the MAC trails the Sun Belt in coaching salaries...not that anybody is getting poor mind you.http://www.macreportonline.com/coaches_salary.html Quote
ZipAlumn Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 This is a sad and disturbing commentary on the state of athletic affairs in the MAC. If the football coaches are that underpaid it can be assumed that the coaches in basketball and all other sports are the same. Also of concern is the assistant coaches who form the well spring of talent for future MAC coaches. Quote
RACER Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 what is a sad commentary is the state of college athletics /not mac atheltics.so the mac school's are just supposed to go into debt, and pay the coaches 40 million dollars like saban.i think the mac does a good job of balances athletics, and putting athletics in perspective. RACER Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 i just read on the mac discussion board where no mac school made money in football.akron only lost 2.8 million on football on 2004-2005. so i definately think we need to give all the coaches in the mac big pay raises. Quote
hy7604 Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 As long as we keep playing games on week nights and holidays we will never draw crowds. Quote
timmyboy Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 yeah i didnt really care for the weekday games. does the university or whoever schedules these games not realise that people have work. lets stick with the saturday games, so that way we can get the attendance up....and let people sit on the home teams side! Quote
timmyboy Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 Akron will lose even more next year after paying a big ten school ( Indiana) to come to Akron to play. If they want to get more people in the stadium, maybe for that game they should think bout lowering the prices of admission, im sure thatd get more people into the stands. Quote
zip81 Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 It is very very difficult to attend weekday games when you have to get up early to go to work.It also doesn't allow you to take the kids with homework to be done and school to attend the next day.I can see scheduling one game per season on a weekday. Is having a game on ESPNU worth sacrificing the gate and fan loyalty? zipsbandman Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 Bottom line is our revenue will automatically increase once a new facility is built. We'll make more money from the suites and box seats alone with that huge press box. I know Toledo makes a ton with their luxury seating. We also have to figure in that we'll probably average higher attendance with a campus facility, and we won't have to charge lower $$ for tickets with an improved gameday venue. Also, don't forget that the facility will host many other university and nonuniversity events which will bring in additional funds. For the time being, though, we'll have to suck it up with what we got, but this is another area that will be improved upon. Quote

There's going to be a lot of revenue just from having a new stadium. If the U gets anything near what Canal Park gets for their Suites, that will be a huge cash cow. Not to mention signage and perhaps even naming rights.I don't know what Canal Park suites are going for now, however when it opened I seem to remember they were going for about $250,000 a pop with a minimum 3 or 5 year commitment. RACER Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 good points but most revenue comes from tv deals not attendace.not that it won't help, but the mac needs to figure out a way to get more cash from tv.i still would like to know what we get from espnu because ;i just don't see how being on espnu helps much. Hawaii's June Jones is reported in Honolulu newspapers to have a salary in excess of 800k annually (contract signed little over a year ago). If his #s are reported in these, then the rest of the WAC coaches must be getting meal money only --and I know that the Fresno coach makes over a half mill, and Peterson in Boise must be close behind. So Hal Mumme has to work for tips? Quote
