Balki Bartokomous
You can add old LeBron James to the list of people who seem to think there is some magical place called Akron U. In a quick interview with the Beacon Journal, talking about Romeo being MAC player of the year, James says something along the lines of "I've always wanted my teammates to be great. He is carrying that torch to Akron U."I wish I knew were this Akron U place that everyone speaks of, was. It seems to be popular around these parts. ZachTheZip
I don't really mind LeBron saying "Akron U". He is not a media guy, or an official representative of the team. He's just another local fan from the area, and that is what the area knows UA as. Of course I wish that people would refer to us as UA, but "Akron U" is so engraved into people's minds that it will take a long time to change it. sgm405
Am I the only one that really doesn't care if people say AU or UA?
K-Roo
LBJ can call us anything as long as he says "Akron"... everytime he says it .. some young stud out there will remember the name when KD comes a calling...
blueandgold
I'm with you sgm405 and K-Roo.As long as they are talking about "Akron" it's all good!
skip-zip
I agree. Anytime anyone says "Akron", it's accomplishing something. Even if I do have to cringe a bit when they say "Akron U".This is what we should do...My fiance went to Memphis. Down there, they don't say "Memphis U.", or "University of Memphis", or anything like that. They just say MEMPHIS.....and everyone knows that you are talking about The University of Memphis. Hopefully, with what has happened in the last couple of years, we are moving closer to the day where we can say AKRON, and everyone will know what we mean, without saying anything else. bobbyake
growing up in Akron, everyone I know always called the University of Akron 'Akron U.' It wasn't until I started going here back in 2002 that I discovered it was really called 'U Akron.' No matter how much you complain, people are going to continue calling it 'Akron U.' We just have to live to learn with it and enjoy the free publicity from Lebron James.
Zipgrad1990
Funny thing when I was in school one of my professors corrected someone for saying University of Akron. He said its THE University of Akron! He probably would have had a coronary if someone would of said Akron U. I sort of cringe too when someone says Akron U, but I let it slide. I think we should go with just saying Akron. Hopefully our success in basketball, football, and soccer will make it so!
zip81
Please...lets stop the UA vs. Akron U thing. My resume reads The University of Akron. When I'm jammin' with my homeboys in the hood..I went to Akron U.Lets keep our perspective. The only thing that matters right now is beating Can't Statel, better known as Ravenna Community College! zen
I agree with you zip81.and to add to it, I want to say that I enjoy a good rant, and I enjoy more ranting when I gotta get something off my chest, but this one keeps popping up every time someone says "Akron U" or "AU" er whatever. When you come here, you are preaching to the choir..... and you'll be lucky if LeBron or Mr.ESPN Reporter or Joe Turkey ever heard of this site, let alone comes to read your rant and avails themselves to your corrections.Write your local paper about it (and propably come off sounding like a snooty brat). You can even write your congressman. But here? I'm a little tired of raising my glass and saying "here here" to the same old rant.
