FearTheRoo
Where do I start? How many more technical problems must we endure with this high school station before we can kick them to the curb? Has there been any explaination for the technical difficulties last night in the post game show right in the middle of KD's comments? They never came back on the air!!! WTF!!! This station regularly has cut out during the most crucial times of the season in both basketball and football.I want to contact the station to discuss this, but I need to compile the problems. Can you help me?In addition to last night, I remember problems during the Miami road game, the BG game (I think) and one of the football games this year. All happened in the final minutes of close games. There are more. That's where you come in. What were they?Mack Rhodes: Fire that POS station. Maybe AM850 would be interested? They are under new management and are looking for good local content. Their signal sucks, but it is better than 1350. I swear, their game day equipment must be 40 years old and be held together by duct tape.
CPAZip
How about thinking a little bigger like an FM station (WNIR the Talk of Akron) / (WKDD - have a heart)?
wadscarman
The athletic departments market is much bigger than just the city of Akron and Summit county. Once you hit the Medina county line, there is no reception. You can forget any fans in Medina and Wayne counties to ever be able to here any broadcasts. What are others feelings and reception towards Portage or Stark county? This is a problem ALL year long with every sport and broadcast. 1350 has got to go !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! zip81
I swear, their game day equipment must be 40 years old and be held together by duct tape. And there's no reason for that considering they are owned by the largest radio company in the nation.WNIR is licened to Can't and has a long history with Can't State..doubt that they'd do it.WHLO, which is 1350's sister station, has a lot of balls to their daytime signal, but their nightime pattern lacks.I'm thinking the place to go is WAKR. They are locally owned, and 1590's signal ain't that bad...even at night.
FearTheRoo
You aint' kidding me! I get plenty of WAKR since we live very close to their transmission towers. It bleeds into any electronic device in our house. AKR would be a dream station for Zips fans. Does anyone know what happened last night? Were they just not able to get back on the air or did French just finally say "the hell with it"?I know Frenchy elluded that there were probablems locally in Miami with the facility, but I doubt that would be the reason at The Q. Fear, we, like you, were listening on the way home....they had two long black outs...after the first one, they cut away to a spot...which right away tells me the problem was in the remote hook up and not back at the station. The board up lost his line and went to commercial.I thought it was over then, but they went back to the Q with Frenchy and Dambrot.About 5 minutes later, they cut out again...long silence...the board op goes to commercial again...but instead of re-establishing contact with the Q, they just rejoined regular satellite programming.I'm not sure if they use a dedicated line...satellite, microwave or what.I know French and will e-mail him tomorrow....we'll see what really happened. FearTheRoo
Thanks. I am really interested. I listened through the balck outs but lost interest once they went to their regular programming. I really wanted to hear KD's comments. GoZips88
Thanks for starting this thread. I almost did last night but chose not to post anything last night and just went to bed.It may not have been a 1350AM problem but that station does have to go. As soon as I get off of the Cleveland-Massillon Road exit in Norton the signal begins to fade and is pretty much gone about a mile-and-a-half later to the southwest. 640, 850, and 1590 all come in just fine where I live. Could not believe, after that kind of ending, that we couldn't even cry in our beer a little bit on the drive home listening to Frenchy, KD, and a player or two. Another and I really didn't need that too. 1350AM and the problems we've had with the broadcasts are embarrassments. Come on Mack - get this situation resolved by football season. timmyboy
Why not have Akron's radio station (88.1 fm) broadcast the games that are closer in this area (Cant, BG, Toledo, Buffalo.) I know that when i was up in cleveland i still got signal from that station. and then have a fall back plan on the AM station that also runs the game. I heard WZIP (88.1) run some of the High School games and the broadcast was clear and didnt have any breaking up like on the am station. Big Zip
Top it off this team needs a call in show after the game. How many people like me wanted to call in last night just to talk to someone that wasn't my wife. She was fine to talk to, but I felt the need to be heard by more people. Shouldn't the popularity of this site dictate a call in show after the game? Not to mention actual calls during the call in show? How about a football call in show during football (football only) and a basketball call in show during basketball season (basketball only). We're one of the only 1-A schools that I know of that doesn't have one. I would've had quite a few choice words had I been able to get on the air waves last night.....and definately tonight.
