Akronite
They aren't even saying a word about this on ESPN despite all of the times they showed the end of last night's game.

The can't criticize the NIT, it'd be a horrible business move. Trust me, jaws dropped in that room when we weren't included.

Valpo Zip
This system is so messed up.AP and Toledo are there but not us.Being in the MAC is like shooting yourself in the foot.Besides, our so called conference teams are enjoying our misery at the NCAABBS board. Why do we play in this trashy conference where we are not wanted. And that ESPNU clown goes: how can akron not be an NCAA team, they should be in the NCAA but we won't even have them in the NIT.WTF ? KeeprOFtheHous
i dont get it Akron was the very first team mentioned how we were so good and not make the NCAA that guy said we were in.. and we are not. what happened.????

I've said this about 3 times already now. THEY WERE AUTO BIDS, the NIT HAD to take them. Know what youre talking about before you complain. Austin Peay got in because they won the OVC regular season title. There were 24 at large bids in the NIT out of a 32 team field. What an absolute joke. We were one of the best 24 teams not selected by the NCAA. Actually, that reminds me, the NCAA bought the rights to the NIT this year. They are probably using it to reward sh!tty teams from major conferences.
Big Zip
If you were looking for another reason to hate the MAC, the officiating, Rick Chryst and especially Laing Kennedy this was it. I almost fell of the couch with this shit. Rick Chryst should be fired. Please oh please don't forget this next year. If he comes to games everyone needs to bring signs and let him have it. When games are on TV bring signs and let him have it. How do I buy the url www.firerickchryst.com here is Laing's e-mail. I encourage everyone to e-mail him tonight and fill up his in box -- lkennedy@Can't.eduMy guess on Rick Chryst is rchryst@mac-sports.com if it follows the form of others at the MAC offices. GoZips88
Just to add something to the possibility we turned it down ...The ESPN host started the show off by saying something to the effect "Let's take a look at some of the teams that WILL be in there ..." and they showcased Akron first. One of the other two guys then said something to the effect that "it's hard to believe somebody with 26 wins, playing well in their conference, ... NOT making the NIT."I wonder if the NIT selected us and then screwed us by sending us on a wild road trip again (Temple, Creighton)? KD and the boys MAY have told them to go get lost. I don't think KD was too happy with how Akron had to travel last year.
BirdZip
I think the hosts on the NIT selection show showed us why they're on ESPNU and not ESPN. They kept calling the NIT the NCAA and I think that is what threw us. At one point, the main guy said Akron wasn't in the NIT and I assumed he meant NCAA because of everything else they had said. mrelegazna
Here's a fun fact...We have the highest RPI of any team not playing in either tournament....AND the ELEVEN teams just below us are all still playing:http://realtimerpi.com/rpi_Men.html

It's just an extension of the major conference bias now. In previous years the NIT had some independence. As for dumba$$es from certain other MAC schools celebrating this, have they considered that this is BAD for the MAC? Dumba$$es..... Z.I.P.
Can someone PLEASE provide us with a LINK to the NIT bracket, or the teams selected? I can't find anything on espn.com or cbssportsline. Are we certain we were not selected?? It just boggles the mind of a true basketball fan. I hope Keith Dambrot didn't turn down the NIT. It will reflect poorly the rest of his career if he did.
KeeprOFtheHous
i can not imagine that our school would turn down any offer, regardless of what the trip may be we played awesome this year and this tourn. would be a great measure of that skill. i hope us not playing is only on the shoulders of the tournament personel

Big Zip
I know KD said it last night that this is a one bid conference, but I also know he didn't mean the NIT. If this is what happens when you schedule like we did -- I've said it before and I'll say it again schedule the toughest schedule in the country and lose all your games what the fuck does it matter if the MAC Tournament and regular season champions are the only ones going dancing. A schedule like ours is completely and utterly pointless. I know KD said last night that the big boys wouldn't play us, but my guess is they wouldn't play us 2 for 1 or home and home -- at their place they'll place -- just schedule the fucking games. NO MORE TIFFINS and MOUNT UNIONS and CAPITALS.
Zips fan
I am blown away that we weren't selected! I look at the teams invited and have no clue how anyone came to this conclusion. It makes no sense! The NCAA invite was a stretch but we were listed as a bubble team and the fifth team not selected. How did this committee select NIT teams? The one guy said they used RPI and Sagarin/computer models, which clearly means Akron would be in. He also referenced who they would not want to play if they were coaching. Well, if you are going to go with something so subjective and arbitrary- they can put all of their friends in the NIT. This selection process is a joke. They need some accountability for who they chose.

Big Zip
Did you see who the selection committee was for the NIT -- retired basketball coaches. A bunch of guys like Dean Smith and Gene Keady -- I think Keady had our region. Can someone find and e-mail address for him? Did they ask a retired MAC Coach -- of course not.
