mcperp Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 This may already have been posted, but if not, take a look: If the link doesn't work, simply type rick boyages letter to fan in the yahoo search.http://media.www.thelantern.com/media/stor...gepublisher.com Quote
zipboy Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 All I know is Boyges said in the paper that it was his job to get Akron in the NIT. Guess that did not work out too well. Quote
exexec Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 I think it is pretty simple. If it was his job to get Akron into the tourney-he failed and he should simply GO. Quit or get fired!!!!!! Quote
w00t Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 I think it is pretty simple. If it was his job to get Akron into the tourney-he failed and he should simply GO. Quit or get fired!!!!!!Sometimes you are responsible for things that are completely out of your control. In this case, getting the likes of Gene Keady's twinkie-eating ass to award Akron an NIT bid. It's not Boyes fault that an old boys' (hm, what an unlikely homophone) club was responsible for picking the NIT field based on "who you would least like to play against if you were the coach". Quote
timmyboy Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 I still think he is not the guy for the job. If he cant take it when fans tell them how they feel or ask for explanations, then he is in thr wrong buisness. He has showed not once but twice that he cant handle being critiqued! Quote
zipboy Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 I have nothing against the guy other than his post to timmy. He was hired to improve MAC visibility in basketball. By all accounts, he failed this year. Now either it is impossible to get MAC visibility because people like Gene Keady are going to not care and in that case this guy's job is meaningless or someone else would have gotten Akron in and then this guy is not successful at his job. I guess that I don't understand the position. The big recommendation was to schedule better teams. Can't played at osu, Butler lost in OT, and Duke, lost by 7. they won 21 games and only last to Akron over their what last 13 games? So they finished strong. They did not get an NIT bid.So either this newly created position is a bunch of BS overhead, or this guy has good ideas that need to be implemented, or someone else needs to do the job. But after about the 5th year in a row hearing Rick Chryst say we need to asses things and take a hard look at what the NCAA committee is telling us is getting old. Laing Kennedy is part of that committe, ask him rather than trying to figure out the secret message. Quote
zip81 Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 clueless, just clueless.Shouldn't you hire a businessman rather than a coach for the position that Boyages has?Someone with a marketing background perhaps? This is a DI conference with DII personnel.I've made the same observations about some of the actions our Athletic Department. skip-zip Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 Let me just say this....I know nothing about how this guy is doing his job, except that he is being accused of not lobbying hard enough for us.However, I know from holding an executive-level job for a corporation for many, many years that it's raised a red flag when I see someone do something as inapprorpriate as sending a derogatory e-mail to somebody. It was really disturbing, and surprising from someone in such a position. And for me personally, I would be concerned about whether he has exhibited this behavior in other similar situations. And if so, has this behavior possibly been detrimental to MAC members, who he represents. If people perceive you a certain way, your influence with them dramatically decreases. If this is the case, it probably would not be beneficial to have someone like this lobbying on our behalf. Quote

I've been saying this from the beginning Skip.We need cutting-edge executives in that job...not re-tread coaches who have never been in a board room.It should be run like a business...not a team.Like I said earlier, if I rifled off an e-mail like that to a customer, I would be His-tor-ee! flipthezip Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 Two of his main job duties as I see it are to help MAC teams schedule better competition and to promote the conference and teams for post-season play.Well, He is 0-3 when it comes to Akron Basketball.Bracket Buster ----- Austin Peay ----- FailedNCAA Tourney ------ FailedNIT -------- Failed Quote
K-Roo Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 Get rid of the position and hire a sports centered PR firm to Market the MAC....Has to be a firm with connections to the NCAA... Who markets the NCAA tourney for them? Give them a real marketing budget.... with incentives and bonuses for every team they get in the NCAA/NIT or every home game they get with a BCS conference team.If they have a vested interest in MAC, they will lobby on our behalf.. If it's about $$$ , then dangle some out there.... Quote
skip-zip Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 I agree. This sure seems like a job for a seasoned business executive, not an ex-coach. Quote
