Big Boys Send Message to MAC

Bad day for MAC teams across the board...

Oklahoma 40, BGSU 10

Michigan 43, Miami OH 10

Iowa 39, Can't State 7

Wisconsin 34, UCF 6

Penn State 48, Akron 10

Troy State 17, Marshall 15

Indiana 41, Central Michigan 10

Minnesota 63, Toledo 21

Maryland 23, Northern Illinois 20

Ohio U 42, VMI 14

MAC teams were outscored by 242 points today -- subtracting Ohio U's win. That's an average margin of defeat by 27 points.. even worse if NIU doesn't keep it close...

NIU and Marshall were only teams in their games.. and thank God Marshall lost....

My point? Let's not overreact to today's game. Not one opponent took any MAC team lightly. And that includes PSU. They all came out and spanked us hard and early and didn't let up. They sent the conference a message. "You're not stealing one from us this year."

And we didn't. Remember... The Motor City Bowl is MAC vs Big Ten #6. That means even our best is only a Big Ten also-ran.

Let's see what happens from here on out....

Here is Recap on Marshall so we can all feel a little better...Could the Thundering Herd be 0-3 to start the year????

Troy State 17, Marshall 15

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) -- DeWhitt Betterson rushed for the go-ahead touchdown and Troy's defense held Marshall to 177 total yards in a 17-15 victory Saturday.

The anemic offensive production by Marshall was its lowest since 1989. It was only the seventh loss Marshall has had at home since it opened its stadium in 1991, and its first season-opening home loss since 1977.

Betterson's one-yard touchdown run with 7:33 left in the third quarter gave Troy a 17-9 lead, one it wouldn't relinquish.

Marshall responded with 2:05 left in the third on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Stan Hill to Josh Davis, but Hill's two-point conversion attempt was deflected at the line.

Marshall had a late chance to come back after stopping Troy on a fourth-and-4 with 2:35 to play, but an illegal participation penalty continued Troy's drive.

The Thundering Herd got the ball back with 24 seconds, but the only gain was a 49-yard reception by Brad Bates at the Troy 32 as time ran out.

Things won't get any easier for Marshall. It has back-to-back road games against Top Ten teams Ohio State and Georgia.

I was thinking the exact same thing -- in the end the Zips only have to win their half of the conference to play in the MAC Championship game in Detroit, December 2nd. The entire MAC won four games so far - Tennessee Martin, Virginia Military Academy, Indiana State and Buffalo. Unfortunately the Zips lost to PSU and soundly - fortunately we don't have to play them every week. Beat MTSU this week and start things out on the right foot. I'm looking forward to this weeks game and finding out where the Zips stand for real. I hope last week wasn't indicative of the future - I hope Charlie and JD don't let it.

Hey toehead, it's VMI - Virginia Military Institute.

You diss the MAC for getting a bowl bid against the Big 10's #6 team but offer nothing better. This makes you a doofus.

On the bright side your stupid rants make this board somewhat entertaining each morning. Too bad you actually went to Akron instead of Can't State, which is about the caliber of your ramblings.

Hey Dr Pain

Ramblings? I guess College Football News is rambling today too:

Check out the column, especially the part that reads:

One year later, and the MAC magic appears to have faded. One of the darlings of 2003, the Mid-American Conference went 2-10 out of league, including some unexpected clunkers from Marshall, Toledo and Akron. The two victories from Ohio and Western Michigan came against VMI and Tennessee-Martin, respectively

Institute Academy what the hell does it matter -- how many times do you read The University of Akron even though that is its proper name. Most refer to it as Akron U -- you apparently new what I was talking about.

Why don't you offer something to the conversation? How about your opinion or are you devoid of putting thoughts together.

Big Zip - you are a retard. You should use "knew", not new. Must be what happens when you attend an open enrollment institution.

Dr. Pain -

Since we're taking points off for spelling, you spelled "diss" incorrectly in your previous post. That would be "dis" as in short for "disrespect." Don't be so quick to throw the stones boy. And I find it absolutely unbelieveable that you use the words "doofus" and "retard" as acceptable put downs and then question the intelligence of someone else. Grow up. Get out. Go Zips.

I hate it when a post becomes a spelling contest. I'd bet there is a National Spelling Bee message board out there somewhere. Look here it is:

I think Dude hit the nail on the head, Dr. Pain is a Can't State fan. Good thing too, Can't is going to need a Dr. for pain in a little over 2 weeks! I bet Dr. Pain was responsible for writing up the Can't State diplomas! Glad we've got a Can't State grad correctign (oops, spelled that wrong) our posts.
