wow, i am in shock. i have talked to her a few times and never once did she indicate that she was going to be transfering or was unhappy at akron.... but i wish her the best wherever she does decide to go.

Wow. You hate to see this, but it's really not surprising. I made numerous posts on here during the season about this program having a long, long, long way to go. They won a few games during the non-conference schedule to some nobodys, but then the conference schedule ended up being pretty predictable. It has to be frustrating to someone of her caliber when you lose games by 30 and 40 points to teams in your own league!!....at home!! And with no light at the end of the tunnel anytime soon, you get this kind of news.

Things were even worse 2 years ago when she committed right ? why did she commit here ?I have a strong feeling that this is about her "end of season suspension."Again, i am waiting for a statement from coach Kest.

if you seen the article it didnt have anything to do with the program itself. it had to do with the coach. Her and the coach just didnt work out together and someone had to give.... and the coach isnt leaving after being here for only one year, so niki made the choice to leave.

Wanna bet part of things not working out with the coach is not liking that the coach sat her butt down at the end of the season????

She sat on the bench for good reason. Let's just say that we're lucky that what happened to cause Niki to sit out was isolated like it was. Believe me when I say it could have been much, much worse. This was one of those times that the team's lack of media exposure actually saved us.I'm sure that when you carry the team the way she did, only to be benched in the most important game of the season, I would be angry with my coach, too. Sure, things improved from one year to the next. It still doesn't take away the hurt of bi-weekly pummelings at the hands of teams in your own conference. She was going to be a leader next year, since there would be no seniors on the team. Let's hope someone else steps up and fills the void Niki will create by transferring.

Holy $hit ! Here goes our hopes of improvement. Now that she's gone, i hope coach Kest would talk about why was Niki suspended at the end of last season.
yeah, that's not going to be happening anytime soon. like uakronkid said, niki got what she deserved with being benched. people need to remember that the team is not made up of just one player. we have some good sophs next year and kest is recruiting some good frosh including a true point guard. people also need to stop trying to make kest into a bad guy. just think how hard it was for her to know that she could really use those players, but she benched them because they broke the rules. that to me shows integrity. too often star players get special treatment or rules bent for them because they are needed on the court. the teams lost those games, and it's the players' fault for being suspended, not kest's for enforcing team rules.

Amen. It's so true, if there was really that big of mistake made. Sorry, but discipline applies to actions both on and off the court, whether the players like it or not. You know we've all seen players get benched by Brookhart, Dambrot and now Kest too. I like a coach that has the guts to stand up for the supposed rules & regs, and somtimes against the out-of-line athlete.

I have talked to Niki a few times and she seemed like she was a good person. Im just curious as to what she did to get suspended. Kest has done a very good job at recruiting so far and next year she has a player coming in from nearby Akron StV STM by the name of kara murphy. She can score, and she can score in bunches. I dont know that she will be able to completely fill the shoes of mccoy, she can for sure soften the blow of losing such a talented player. We also have the transfer from Illinois who will be able to play next season, after sitting out this past year due to NCAA transfer rules. Im going to stay optomistic about the outlook for next season.

The Toledo Blade scooped the ABJ by 2 days on a Zips story...why am I not surprised?
ha me either. It is pretty bad that a local HS softball team in playing in a tourney down in myrtle beach, and the plain dealer has more coverage of it then the beacon. How can they raise their prices for their paper saying they want to stay in line with the bigger papers such as the plain dealer and new york times, but provide high school level coverage..... its beyond me

Timmyboy, thanks for this tidbit, that I haven't heard about elsewhere. What is her name/position -- is she expected to start next year? Get much PT at UI?
