Zipsrifle Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 I think we'll win, but after seeing the D last week, it won't be easy. I'll reserve my prediction till I'm better educated MTSU. Quote
Guest MT Blue Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 We're much like you. Defense is suspect. But I can assure you that our receivers will be the fastest you will see all season. Kerry Wright outran UGA and Mizzou's secondary. Over 1200 yards receiving and 9 touchdowns last year. Pedro Holliday- Track All American. Linnie Yarborough- Conference track champion. We haven't been shutout in four years and I don't think ya'll will be the ones to do it. Don't be surprised if the MAC goes to 0-2 against the SBC. Quote
Guest nashvillegoldenflash Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 Don't be surprised if the MAC goes to 0-2 against the SBC. You are right about that MT Blue! Quote
ZipDude Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 If the D is as unimproved as it a[[eared last Sat and the offense does not step up and make some plays and their offense is more prolithic than ours, we simply cannot catch up. We need that O to step and and play like they have the ability to do. Its quite a different deal this year vs last. We could score from anywhere at anytime and proved it each and every week. Not so based on last week Quote
Guest Guest_RACER Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 i guess i was wrong. i thought our d could not get any worse than last year. if our d plays like that the rest of the year we will be in big trouble. regardless of what the offense does ;if we can't even slow a team down. if we lose this game we most likely will be 0-3 going into Can't.not a good sign. it's not that we lost to penn state that i am angry. its the way we lost. our defense could not even slow em down. i am not trying to rip the coaching staff. i didnt think owens was the answer either ,but the coaches job is to make the players he has now better.not just to wait until they can recruit their own. that's what i did not see (an improvement over last year on defense).i think the offense will be ok. we did move the ball against penn state. i dont think any team we play this year (maybe virginia ) will have as good of defense either as psu. right now my expectations are very low. we should win a some games only because of the level of play of the mac teams so far. the other scary fact is we lose number 5 next year. i could not imagine how many games we would have won without him? Zipsrifle Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 WOAH, hold on folks, I'm not ready to spell out gloom and doom this year for the Zips. Granted our D sucked last week. I have to expect that they will be better this week, but I do have to agree with Racer that they didn't improve as much as I had hoped during the offseason. This week is the indicator of how the Zips will fare this season. I say that we'll win, but by the narrowest of margins. I say we win 38-35. This is my last post so I'll see everyone at the game. The car is loaded and we'll be on the road tomorrow after work. GO ZIPS!!! Quote
Guest Roofer Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Coaches can make players marginally better. What you saw on Saturday from the Zips defense was a result of 4 years of non targeted recruiting. If you have a load of shit in the kitchen and hire a new chef you canot expect a crown roast to come out of the oven. Quote
Guest Guest_racer Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 what i saw was a denfense that was not marginally better. they were absolutley awful. they were overplaying, and could not tackle. earl did step up some.pace did make some nice plays at the end of the game. i am not an owens fan of his d either,so dont use that as a follow post. what i am saying is that in the first game i saw no difference between owens d, or brookahrts d. penn sate could of layed 100 on us if they wanted to. hopefully we just ran into a buzzsaw in penn state. thats why the first game is not always an indicator of a season. we will see as the season goes on. CarolinaZip Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 ""''' If you have a load of shit in the kitchen and hire a new chef you cannot expect a crown roast to come out of the oven"""""""" Can't argue with you about some of the shit in the kitchen but the new d chef is nothing to write home about, carrying his own excess body waste baggage, having been released from his defensive coordinator's position at UNC last year for coordinating a defense last year that averaged THIRTY-EIGHT F------ POINTS A GAME in 2003. Again I say, he should have been allowed to jump ship last winter (based on his record at UNC alone) for "higher ground" when he demonstrated his committment to the program by seeking employmenyt elsewhere before the ink dried on his UA contract. Guest Dr. Zip Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 Fleming was not UNC's DC, he was their secondary coach. Their secondary sucked. He must feel at home at Akron because their secondary sucks too. Quote
Big Zip Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 I hate to keep flushing back to what Urban Meyer did at BG, but if you don't think he turned a pile of shit into a crown roast with all the trimmings -- you're high. It can be done. Gary Blackney from 1995 to 2000 went 5-6, 4-7, 3-8, 5-6, 5-6, 2-9. Urban Meyer got there and promptly went 8-3 and 9-3 -- then he left and his recruits went 11-3 with a new coach. It can be done -- this week will tell us more than last week ever could. Quote
