Here is the article from gozips.com regarding the gaem this afternoons against the OSU Buckeyes. Guess them buckeyes cant beat us zips in everything huh....AKRON, Ohio – Clutch hitting by Akron in the third and eighth innings was enough to defeat Ohio State, 2-1 on Wednesday night at Lee Jackson Field. The win puts Akron at 17-21 on the season heading into the final weekend of play."This was an outstanding effort by our team," said head coach Julie Jones. "Our pitching was excellent and the defense really stepped up today."With the game tied at 1-all, the Zips opened the bottom of the eighth with Krista Hansen (Arlington, Wash./Arlington) reaching on an error. Kelsie Hanson (Katy, Texas/Katy) popped up to the third baseman, but alert base running by Hansen allowed her to steal second base. That set the table for Lisa McLean (Canton, Ohio/Parry) who took Kim Reeder's pitch down the left field line. A diving effort by the Buckeyes' Megan Schwab came up short, allowing Hansen to cross home plate for the game-winning score. It was a pitcher's duel over the first three innings until the Zips took a 1-0 lead in the fourth. Carrese Moody (Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) was safe at first on an error by the shortstop and advanced to third on a pair of groundouts. With two outs, Katrina Moffett (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) singled just past the second baseman into right field for the score. The Buckeyes (33-16) answered back one inning later as Jamee Juarez tripled to right field and scored on a sacrifice fly from Christina Douglas.Freshman Lindsay Bodeker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota West) was masterful in the victory, allowing just five hits in eight innings and striking out five. A total of 12 strikeouts were recorded in the game between the two schools, with pledges being donated to the American Cancer Society for each strikeout.Bodeker (12-14) found herself in a jam in the sixth inning when Ohio State used back-to-back singles from Nycole Koyano and Brittany Vanderink, along with an intentional walk to Sam Marder to load the bases with no outs. She got Schwab to pop up to second base, and struck out Courtney Pruner. Juarez ended the inning with a groundout, stranding all three runners.Ohio State again had a chance to win the game with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the eighth, but solid defensive play by the Zips' middle infield kept the Buckeyes scoreless once again.Akron closes out the regular season this weekend as it faces Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan in Mid-Ameriacn Conference action. The Zips and Eagles will play a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 1 p.m. Akron and CMU face off in single games on Saturday (2 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.). Saturday's game is Senior Day as Zips seniors Jaclyn Spirtos (Medina, Ohio/Highland), Sara Tervo (Manchester, Mich./Clinton), Amanda Cody (Tampa, Fla./Chamberlain/Wright State), Paige Smith (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) and Moody will be honored prior to the game.

It was a good game... and there was a big croud. However, most of it was not ours. You would think that we were in an away game, cheers when a zip strikes out and clapping hands when OSU gets a hit... The worst thing about it is that those people cheering were wearing Ellet orangemen, Stow-monroe, or Canton mckinley gear...

The people wearing the Ellet Gear were family members of Courtney Pruner (OSU) who played at Ellet. They have to cheer for her. There were also people from Ellet Cheering for Akron. One of Pruner's best friends Jessica Davidson plays for Akron.

If you had posted something about this game before it was played, you may have gotten a few people that would have added to the thread with comments about how everyone in NE Ohio is a Suckeyes fan, so the stadium will be backed with red and gray-clad fans. And there is no way Akron can compete with the mighty OSU.
