johnnyzip84
These ticket prices are scaring me a little, even though (admittedly) I've stated previously what a good opportunity I think this game is for the Zips. Personally, I'm more than willing to purchase the best seat I can. I'm just concerned that the relatively high cost could keep attendance down. Is $20 the cheapest seat? Wouldn't it make more sence to have a very inexpensive section in the upper portions of each end zone?I also wonder if there will be any backlash that might affect ticket sales because of the Frye snub in drafting BQ. I'm not saying there will be. I'm just throwing it out there.Go Zips! Beat Army!!

skip-zip
I like how they say "while supplies last". Army isn't even a big draw if we're playing in Akron, and the tickets are only $10. So, these prices are not likely to draw the curious football fan. These ticket prices appear to be merely a refletion of the stadium that it will be played in. But again, I don't think that the curious football fan is going to jump all over this opportunity. If I recall, Bowling Green played in this game last year. And I was watching it on tv, and I don't remember seeing very many people. I'm not quite sure what these Patriot Bowl organizers expect to gain out of all of this. This looks like one of those things that will draw mostly the die-hard 2,000 to 3,000 Akron fans, and that might be about it. Sorry to be so negative. I'm just not optimistic about this right now. Zip Watcher
I'm wondering how to get seats up in the club level. That's where I sat for the BG WISC game last season & was the best place to be in the yar.
K-Roo
If the price scares you, buy season tickets at $75.00 ea -- the Army game ticket is included in the package.... that makes the ticket price $15.
GoZips88
Family Plan is the way to go for my wife, two kids, and I. $120 includes four tickets to each of the five home games, INCLUDING the Army game (I just called the ticket office to confirm). That's $6 per ticket, including the Army game at Cleveland Browns Stadium.
skip-zip
K-Roo. Sorry, when I said that the price bothers me, I was referring to its potential to attract people other than those who would normally go to an Akron game, or those who already purchase Akron season tickets. But thanks for the feedback. I am aware that getting this game ticket through the season ticket package would be a real plus.
K-Roo
Skip-Zip npMaybe I read too much into your post....Looks to me, from reading the release, that local businesses will be promoting the game as part of the Labor Day weekend experience.. First Merit is the sponsor -- I would expect they have guaranteed a certain number of tickets will be sold. Probably at 50% of face value and probably donated to military families.Remember, the NCAA 15k rule can be tickets sold @ min 50% face value...My question is does the 50% face value mean from the $45.00 or the regular $15.00 Rubber Bowl ticket???If, for instance, we assume that First Merit has put $250,000 into the Patriot Bowl and received 10k tickets in return, do you count the 10k tickets as sold @ $22.50 toward the home attendance rule or do you count based on the $7.50 at the Rubber Bowl (which would be $250,000 divided by $7.50 = 33k???)Then we add actual butts in seats from season tickets and regular sales and you ought to be over 20k toward attendance rule... right? ZachTheZip
They're really pimping this game out. I have heard no less than 5 ads on the radio for the patriot bowl in the last 3 hours. Has anyone seen a commercial on TV yet? It wouldn't suprise me. I still don't know how they can realistically expect 30,000 fans to show up, as stated on Rasor's blog. What worries me is that I think many people will show up and view this as a "scouting" game to see what the Buckeyes are going to be up against the next week. If that is the case (I sure hope not), then the best thing the Zips can do is not just win, but win big, in a huge blow out. It would get some publicity by word-of-mouth going, at the very least. I say about 13,000 show up for the game, but I hope it is much more than that.
skip-zip
As is always the case when there is a promotion of this type, the question will be.....If the business community really supports this thing, and buys the tickets, how many people that are given tickets will actually show up?? ZachTheZip
The latest I heard, the groups organizing this thing have increased their predictions to 40,000 in attendance. I really, really would love to know what makes them think that we will get even half that if we are lucky. I just don't see it. I really hope they are right and I am wrong, but they just seem so completely unrealistic that it gives me the feeling that the series will be an absolute failure, because their expectations are way too high. Also, does anyone know if students get in free? It is a "home" game, after all.
akronad
I know I had mentioned something on one of the other boards, but I forgot something. This is a list of the mjor events happening in Cleveland on 9/1, in no specific order.1. Patriot Bowl-6:00 PM2. Air Show-Until 5:00 PM3. White Sox/Indians game 7:00 PM4. Taste of Clevleand @ Tower City-All Day and nightWith all of these activities going on, I really find it hard to believe that we will have more than 20,000 at the stadium, and I'm being generous with that number.
