I just purchased the 2007 Sporting News College Football magazine. Here are their MAC predictions:East1) Miami2) Ohio3) BGSU4) Temple!!5) Akron6) Can't7) BuffaloWest1) Western2) Ball St.3) Toledo4) Central5) Northern6) EasternI didn't expect the Zips to be a favorite, but this could be the "slap in the face" needed to motivate the team. I surely hope it works that way. The one that really gets me is Temple being picked ahead of the Zips. For that matter, the Flushes seem to be getting dissed as well. I do agree that Ball St. will be a force. I might have them listed as the favorite at this point. Nate Davis will carry them a long way if he stays healthy. They list CJ among 3 players who "must step up". Good call there, assuming he gets the job (certainly not a forgone conclusion).

Those predictions are hilarious. I guarantee that the MAC East will be completely different than that with the exception of Buffalo staying at the bottom. :chair:

The publication probably assumes since Temple is coming from the big east they will finish in the middle. And Frank Solich has done a great job at OU. And Ball State has a good QB and we are an incosistent breaking in a new QB team. so as far as making predictions I could see how it comes out that way but that doesn't mean I agree with it.

The idea of picking Miami first with Kokel as their QB is hilarious!!!!!!!
I know. I was thinking the same thing. Plus, didn't they finish just ahead of Buffalo last season. I'm not sold on their head coach either. I wouldn't read much into these predictions, Phil Steele is about the only one who occaisonally gets it right. Most of these threads are based upon just picking the teams who finished first last year or those schools with rich traditions to finish near the top. Conversely, because they are uninformed, they just choose the schools with the not so rich traditions to finish near the bottom. These guys from the sporting news probably didn't spend much time scouting the MAC. For what its worth, I would pick it this way: East: Ohio, Can't, Akron, BGSU, Miami, Temple, Buffalo. The top three or four should be very close in overall talent. I think Miami is going to suck right along with Temple and Buffalo.West: Who cares.

At first glance, I couldn't find who contributed to the MAC section, but as I later saw in the back of the magazine, it was Doug Zaleski (Muncie Star Press) and someone (forgot his name) from the Toledo Blade. These guys (Zaleski in particular) have long been used by TSN in these pre-season magazine. Since they both cover West division teams, this helps explain (but in no way excuses) the "cluelessness" of the East predictions. Zaleski seems to always sell the Zips short for some reason. You RARELY find a Zip on his preseason all-conference team (zero this year). Maybe he has a big head from being the college sports writer of such an esteemed publication as the Muncie Star Press!
