Jordan Miller, a pro-style passer from New Philadelphia, verbally committed Thursday to Akron, his only scholarship offer. He has only started two games his sophomore year and 10 his junior year. His accuracy (101 of 216 passing) is a big concern, but Miller possesses a strong arm.Iowa, Michigan, Boston College and Kansas had been in contact with Miller, but understandably, they wanted to see if he could improve his accuracy before offering a scholarship. Miller is only 6-foot-2, but can run the 40-yard dash in 4.7 seconds.

TIMMMY, nice find. Do we have the makings of a wide receiver here?
Thats always possible considering we have Hakes who is young, and we also have incoming freshman Rodgers. With the lack of depth we have at WR, his size and speed could very well be the deciding factor if he is moved to WR

Phila QB commits to play at AkronT-R Staff ReportJordan Miller is getting it out of the way early. The New Philadelphia High quarterback verbally committed to play college football at the University of Akron on Thursday. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound senior signalcaller made the trip north to make his early commitment to the Zips.“I went up and visited with them today and told them I wanted to play for Akron,” an excited Miller said. “It was close (to New Philadelphia) and it was probably the best situation for me.”New Philadelphia coach Matt Dennison said Akron is the right place for Miller.“He felt comfortable there and they were comfortable with him,” said Dennison. “Jordan told me it was the right fit for him.”Advertisement Last year, his first as a starter, Miller hit 98 of 218 passes for 1,593 yards, 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.Miller will try to etch his name into Akron history alongside some pretty good company.“It’s a great quarterback school,” noted Dennison. “The last two Akron quarterbacks (Charlie Frye and Luke Getsy) are in the NFL.”Frye was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2005 and Getsy, Frye’s successor at Akron, signed a free agent deal with the San Francisco 49ers earlier this year. It’s also a place where Miller felt comfortable with Akron head coach J.D. Brookhart, who reminded the senior of another important man in his life.“Coach Brookhart reminds me of Coach ‘D’ (Dennison),” said Miller. “He’s a really smart guy who knows his football.”Miller said he owes a lot to Dennison. “Coach ‘D’ knows what he’s doing, you just have to listen to what he says and you’ll do well.”Now Miller hopes to do well as a senior on a Quaker team with high expectations this year, especially after dropping from Division II to III.“I got looked at by a bunch of bigger schools but I didn’t want to sit and wait and ruin my chances with a great school like Akron,” Miller said. “Plus I’m happy to have this decision made before my senior year started. We have high hopes this year and our team chemistry is so great. I’m glad I can focus just on playing.”Miller will join former New Philadelphia standout Richard Sandilands at Akron.“That’ll be neat,” said Dennison. “To have two kids from New Philadelphia there at the same time is a great thing.”“It doesn’t happen that often, it’s an honor,” Miller said of playing on the same team as Sandilands. “When Richard would come home this past year, we’d throw a little on the turf (at Quaker Stadium) and he told me a lot about the program. He loves it at Akron.”

Of course, I have my concerns when someone was receiving no other scholarship offers. On the other hand, I like getting QB's. High school QB's are often one of the best athletes on their team, which does indeed give a school like Akron an opportunity to plug him into another role.
