Z.I.P.
What does the term "direct admission" mean? I thought all students still had to complete General College requirements before being admitted to the "Upper College" (is that the term -- twenty-five years later and too much makes me forget!)? flipthezip
Admission to the University use to mean you spent the first 2 or so years in The University College completing general requirements and the pre-reqs. for admission to the degree granting colleges - A&S, Business, Engineering, Nursing, F&AA, Education. Now students who acheive a high test score on the ACT or SAT combined with a high GPA from high school can get "direct admission" to these colleges. They still spend the first 2 years completing general courses and pre-reqs.It is a way to attract quality students away from other schools who have limited spaces and are highly competitive for admission to there degree granting colleges.Students are still expected to maintain a minimum GPA for that individual college. skip-zip
Thanks for the refresher course. It's been over 20 years now since graduation, and that's how I remember it as well.
BZip_08
I was a direct admit back in 2004 to the College of Business. There were not many of us, but after speaking with everyone there it was easy to understand UA's policies for DAs- high test scores and gpa. Not exactly rocket science. I would explain the high quantity of direct admits simply- the growth of the Honors College. The numbers within HC are sky rocketing, and with that the numbers of quality students from the region are greater as well. This is a great thing.
