Zipsrifle Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 Since this will be a short week, I don't think it's too early to move onto this topic. I really hope that despite opening 0-3, the team can get pumped up for the Can't game. I was so pissed after the loss last year that I'm really looking for some revenge. I don't think that Can't is any better than we are with their only win coming against Liberty. They are losing to Rutgers right now and I don't think they are any better than MTSU. I expect another dogfight. I know the game is at DIX and I hope that all the people who witnessed the game at the bowl last year come to the game this year. IMO, this rivalry has been beat down by all the years both teams sucked and played the game at the end of the season. I think last year did a lot for the rivalry. This is probably the most important game for the Zips w/r to keeping their DI-A status. Why? 1) Fans. We are fighting for the same fans and we need to keep the upper hand in this series to pull in those extra fans. They are the key to the 15,000 attendence rule. 2) Players. We are both fighting for pretty much exactly the same players. With both schools having new coaches, we'll need the advantage of a win by JD to sway as many guys to our side as possible. 3) Morale. If we lose this game, the team morale will be in the dumper. We need the win against our rivals to get something going. 4) MAC East Championship. We need to take Can't this first game to start our MAC East run. We've got the two big boys late in the season so we've got to take these other 3 teams that are on our level to get some excitement going. We've got a short week but hopefully we can pull this thing out. Should be a Dogfight. I'm looking forward to this one. I want revenge for last year! Quote
zff Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 Yes the Zips look to the start of the real season the MAC season. I really thought they would be 1 - 2 at this point. They should have won last week but oh well it is over no on to Can't. Yes they offense was terrible today but come on VA has one hell of a team. Frenchy said this was the best team the Zips have faced since Nebraska. And they won the championship that year. This game is huge. They need a win and who better to beat than Can't. Come Zips forget today and get ready for the MAC Season!!!! BTW, I just saw MTSU lost to Flordia Atlantic 27 - 20 at home. I said it after the game and I will say it now MTSU sucks the Zips gave that game away!!!! Quote
Z-Pouch Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 4) MAC East Championship. We need to take Can't this first game to start our MAC East run. We've got the two big boys late in the season so we've got to take these other 3 teams that are on our level to get some excitement going. Right now, I'd be happy with wins over Can't State and Buffalo. I would think that with home field pts, Can't State will be favored on Thursday -- Can't State beat the spread tonight, MTSU lost to Florida Atlantic. Zips bad. MAC championship ZR -- Nothing personal. Losing sucks and makes for a bad mood but right now we dont look good at all - Talent levels at a number of positions are questionable and early grades on the new coaching staff don't look good. What was up with the game plan today ????? The worst !!!!!!!!! Let see, if we put our QB in 2nd or 3rd down and long situations all day, WHAT WILL BE THE RESULT --> Running for your life and 73 yds Passing -- Hey, if you know it's coming, defensing it isn't that tough. Unimaginative, Horrible, Conservative game plan/play calling. There also seems to be a lot of confusion and indecisiveness at crucial times/plays -- At the end of the MTSU game, A number of times today on big 3rd/4th downs. I hoped for better but JD may need time to learn on the job and this year school is in. Quote
Zipsrifle Posted September 19, 2004 Author Report Posted September 19, 2004 No hard feelings. I'm not feeling too good about the way things are going right now either. MTSU was our game and we blew it, no question about that. There is also no excuse for losing 51-0 when the team your playing lets up after the first half. The team has had pleanty of practice time and should have the system down by now. If JD needs on the job training, he's gotten quite a bit of it in the past 3 weeks. I think that everyone expected to be 1-2 at this point....we're 0-3. Put me in the "Sunshine" column, but I'm not going to dwell on the past. There is also nothing, realistically, that is going to happen to change the current Coaching/Player situation. This is our hand and we've got to play it. We've got our cross town rival this week and our first Confrence game. The fact remains that the MAC East is weak outside of Miami and Marshall. IMO, we have a good chance to be undefeated in the East by Marshall time and that is 5 games away. Anyway you slice it right now, we've got a shot at the MAC East Championship. I hope that the team looks at it that way too, cause if they don't then JD should be fired right now. Bottom line, our opinions aren't going to change anything tha has to do with the team. The only thing that I can change is how many people come to the games. As you are well aware, we are on the hook for 15,000 avg attendence. It would be a devistating blow if we are shut out of a bowl and then lose our D1-A status. If I can get more people to go to the games because of my comments here in additon to the number of friends I drag to the home games, I've done my part. Finally, if everyone agreed on this board, then we wouldn't keep coming back to see what has been posted now would we? Quote

In fact, over half their stars are prop-48's. They don't have to comply by 1-A regulations in that area. Secondly, as bad as we are, we didn't get our @ss stomped by Virgnia 51-0 or unranked Penn State 48-10. Oh, and the Kangaroo's did lose at home to us! You won't be able to take that game back just like we can't have FAU back. So what if you did blow it? It's not our fault that your coach can't preach maturity and perseverence in Akron! Quote
Guest Zip88 Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 Hey Blueraider.... Pathetic. You get to feel what we felt last week so you come over here to be a jerk??? Bottom line.. you lost... as for us being stomped by Penn State and Virginia... Who the heck is Florida Atlantic??? A jr college??? Prop 48 rejects? Excuses... You suck. You lost. There's no embarassment losing to Penn State and Virginia... just disappointment at our performances. Your just lucky that the Florida game was "hurricaned" out. They never let up.. Your beloved Raiders would have been looking up at 70 spot.. just like TCU saw tonite... They will give a good dose of reality... Now go back home to the hills and leave us to wallow in our mysery.... Quote
Guest Dump Zip Football Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 Can't State wins this one in a rout 45-21. Only 2 months till hoops season. Quote

They beat Hawaii and North Texas both on the road, and there is no doubt in my mind that that school could embarrass Akron IN AKRON. But what's worse, Zip88? Losing to Florida Atlantic, or losing at home to the school that lost to Florida Atlantic? Quote
Guest ***GUEST_Z.I.P. Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 Here are some important facts that people may wish to consider, even savor. 1. The 15,000 attendance rule hasn't and never will come into effect. It simply hurts too many big boys, by potentially keeping them out of bowls with too few 1-A wins. 2. Florida Atlantic is a very good football team with a couple of NFL prospects, including a TE who could be a first-rounder. AND a coach in Howard Schnellenberger who has won a national championship with the Miami Hurricanes, and gave up offers to coach BCS teams for the challenge of building a new program and school from scratch. Look for FAU to dominate the SBC. 3. Akron had better be able to beat the Buffalo Bulls, cause otherwise, they're looking at going 0 for 04. 4. Don't expect the basketball team to be much better. They too are talent starved. The only way they'll be contenders is if Dambrot brings another ex-player of his back to wear Akron #23, and I don't think the NCAA would be very friendly toward the concept. 5. Meanwhile, how many of you are regular attendees of the UA soccer games? From the attendance figures, not many. That's a shame, bacause Chief Lolla has the best team on campus, and its a very entertaining and WINNING way to spend 2 hours. GO UA futbol! Quote
Guest Guest Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 Another game........ another loss. Face it, we suck this year. I wonder if Charlie whishes he would have turned pro Quote
Guest Zip88 Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 Raider, What is Worse? Losing to FL ATL or to the team that lost to FL ATL?? For the record... The combined record of FL ATL opponents is 1-6 -- and that lone win is your win over Akron??? As you pointed out, that's nothing to brag about. Had you played the Florida game that record would be 1-7. If we don't lay an egg at home make that 0-8. We did, you won.. congrats. MTSU(1-1) beat Akron (31-24) lost to FL ATL (27-20). Hawaii (0-2) lost to Rice(42-29) lost to FL ATL (35-28). North Texas(0-3) has been manhandled by Texas(63-0) and Colorado(52-21) and lost to FL ATL (20-13). I don't doubt that FL ATL has some athletes. But it seems to me that Hawaii, UNT and MTSU all looked past them. Good 1AA programs always have been able to compete with bottom-feeding 1A programs. But you left 1AA behind. You should beat them. End of story. As for what's worse? Being a long-time Zip fan is worse... all Zip fans out there have been waiting 20 years. With no light at the end of the tunnel. We expect to be disappointed around here every year -- so losing to you isn't a huge surprise. We are 0-3 when we thought we'd be 1-2. Penn State is not FL ATL and Virginia is for real. And we always lose 1 or two we should win -- so we are on track for the usual season...we'll surprise someone.. Marshall, Miami, N Illinois. At least now it seems as though this AD is trying to build a program -- they actually have a plan , something we didn't have when we made the move to 1A. That was a huge mistake. Now it remains to be seen if we can overcome the "Culture of Mediority" that has permeated this program... We had hoped to compete this year and it doesn't even look close yet. That's what is worse.... Quote
