ziptrumpet87 Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 BALAAM ZIP HOPEFUL:Al-Teric Balaam heads into Akron's preseason football camp looking for major playing time as a middle linebacker.Balaam, a 6-1, 225-pound sophomore from New Brunswick, made his collegiate debut last year and left quite a calling card. The former Zebra saw action in 11 of the Zips' 12 games and posted 10 tackles. However, Balaam is regarded as a talented athlete who the Akron staff will use to add depth at linebacker. He enters the preseason camp as a versatile performer who could play any of the Zips' linebacker positions.Balaam was a redshirt as a freshman after earning honors as a two-way performer for New Brunswick in his senior season.Balaam and the Zips host Army in the season debut Sept. 1 in Cleveland with the accent on rebuilding the defense. The Zips won the Mid-America Ccnference in 2005 but slipped to 5-7 overall and 3-5 in the conference last season. Balaam could be in the right place at the right time in terms of getting more playing time and establishing himself as a key figure for the future.source Quote
