Zipgrad01
Zipsrifle, you are right in a lot of ways. It is easy to root for a winner and a lot of people will cheer for the popular team because they want to fit in with the crowd and "be one of the guys".You are also right about what BCS schools would say if we go 10-2. However, the only way to change that perception is to schedule some mid level BCS schools for home and home games and start winning some on a consistent basis. People used to say the same things about Boise State in football and Gonzaga in basketball. Then they started beating some good teams with regularity and they started to get legitimized by the media and fans on a national level. That is what we need to start doing. Trust me, if that happens Akron will get a following in NE Ohio. We will never convert dedicated Buckeye fans, but we would make them respect our program and we would see a "new era" of Zips fans. These are the high school and non BCS college kids that would root for the local winner if they appear to be a national player. Until we are looked at by the local community as a national player we will always be viewed as a 2nd tier team and rightfully so. We haven't earned anything yet. Buckzip
Also, here at UA we are so used to not being real successful. Therefore what we may deem a success, others don not. If we went 8-4 this year we would call that a great year. At some of hte big schools, if the team goes 8-4, the coach may be fired or at leat be on the hot seat. What we look at as being a winner, others may look at as being mediocre. We lost to Can't last yeat for heavens sakes...We beat NCSU which was a step in the right direction. But then we bomb after that.We need to beat upper echelon teams on a consistent basis to be given the respect that we want. We haven't done any of that yet. Hopefully we will start by winning some big games this year.

xu9697
Syracuse, Indiana & Kentucky are teams that we already have lined up (as many know). Hopefully they don't back out. Some other programs that make sense (type of school, region wise, etc.) and programs where we could probably get a 1 for 1 and have 6-7 home games a season in '09-'12:CincinnatiUConnMemphisMarshallSouthern Miss. scottditzen
Hey Ryno, good call on BYUStanfordWakeI would love to see decent, well known visiting teams that normally do not play in the region ie vs OSU. Regional teams with a big following ie Marshall are good too.
Zipgrad01
I think we would have the most success on the field, in the stands and in scheduling possibility by trying to play teams like....KentuckyPittsburghPurdueIndianaMichigan StateSyracuseMarylandNorthwesternIowa StateSouth FloridaEast CarolinaCincinnatiMemphisNC StateI can see all those teams POSSIBLY scheduling a home and home series with us. I just don't want to play too big of a school where we get embarrassed at home. I think we can at least compete with these schools except maybe a MSU or Maryland. It would give the home fans a good show and draw ticket interest from fans.

Notre Dame would never come here.Mountain West- AllPAC 10- Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon State, StanfordSEC- Kentucky, Mississippi, Mississippi State, VanderbiltSunbelt- No oneWAC- AllI would obviously take any "big name" school, but I have listed the ones that I think we have a shot at possibly bringing in at some point. FYI. I think any of the western conference teams would be tough due to the distance they would have to travel.
