Ben Speas of CVCA

Recommended Posts

I was surprised to find this kid was somehow left off the roster for the U.S. Under-17 World Cup team, which the US started on Monday in Korea. He had played on the team in a tournament in France in April, scoring a goal and providing two assists. Is he injured?Hopefully, he will be a Zip in '08. Any Akron futbol fans who can provide there review of his talents? He's a member of Everest SC in Akron.

I know info about the cvca team in general but not much about Speas, except his mom was a teacher of mine... and he makes me feel old.I don't know if he was on varsity blue or white last year, but I'd assume blue. Blue earmed their first national ranking last year, 20th in the country. Lost to Walsh, the eventual state champs, in post season. The defense allowed only 10 goals all year. They make an alumna feel proud.

Ben was not select for the Korea trip. He was asked to play in Japan at the beginning of August, but was injured. He is leaving for IMG in Bradenton tomorrow (and is therefore not playing for CVCA), we wanted to make sure he was healthy as he began playing for the U-17 team at IMG. Akron 09'?...maybe, he has two years to decide that...if you have any more questions ask me...Ben is my source.

Last I had heard, Ben was going not going to play for CVCA this year, and instead would be in Florida at an elite camp of some sort.  I still have contact with his older brother sometimes (I'm also a CVCA alum), and I'll try to find out more.
The camp you speak of would probably be the US Youth Soccer Residency Program in Bradenton, where two of our recruits were resident last year -- along with gaining U-17 international experience. It may be better that he was left off the roster for Korea -- as the team has gotten crushed by Tunisia and Berzerkistan its first two matches. Yes -- Berzerkistan -- as in Doonesbury. :D
