Zipsrifle Posted October 2, 2004 Report Posted October 2, 2004 Well, that us ugly. I would have thought we would have made more improvement since the UVA game. I didn't expect in any way to have NIU put in their 2nd team in the 3rd Q. Here are some of my thoughts. First half. Obviously we were on our heels right away with their first play going for a score. I actually had some hope of us making this a game when the score was 28-12 late in the first half. I mean, we put together two long drives that ended with TD's and it kinda looked like the D had stiffened up against NIU. I was thinking, well, take away the runback for a TD and the score would be 21-12, much better than I thought. It seemed like we were having some success running and some success passing. We were just about where I would have liked the team to be. I was thinking, if this keeps up, we might be in it by the end of the game. Then, we let them in the Endzone right before halftime. Second half. This was the same team that came out and played the 2nd half against Virginia. I missed the first 5 min of the 3rd Q, but it was apparent by then that the game was pretty much over. I'm kinda amazed that when NIU put their 2nd team in, that we didn't really start to move the ball. It sounded like we still had our starters in, but Frye was still running for his life. NIU is good, but I'm having a hard time believing that their backups are nearly as good as UVA's. This kinda reminds me of past years. We show some glimpses of putting it together, only to have things fall apart. I'm just down right frustrated right now. I really don't think that we should have been dismantled by NIU the way we were. It is very obvious right now that their are two levels of MAC play, and we're solidly in the lower level. I don't think there are any more "This week truely tells us where we stand for the rest of the year" statements....I have a pretty good idea of where we stand. Our only win came against Can't, who lost to CMU, who also sucks. I really hope the JD is the next Joe Novak. He's got a long way to go, but Novak was in a similar spot a few years ago. I think he is, the guy is really modivated and one of those people who always seems to find a way to succeed. We've had a rough schedule so far, we're entering a phase of the schedule where we should be in every game playing for the win over the next 3 weeks. I'm afraid to say it, I'm scared to death of Buffalo right now. Quote
