Guest AkronZipsFan34_1_5
I know Dan Hipsher hasn't done much in the 9 years he's been here but the graduating of this senior class is a good thing. Besides Andy. Tarver was too concerned with how many points he had, Johnny just really didn't care after his friend died. Matt didn't play much. This next recruiting class is a good one. They are young and fresh and I am sure will be fine. They have Wood and Joyce to help them out and personally I hope Dan stays because I think he should have another chance I mean this year I know was suppose to be the best but things just happened out of nowhere Peterson got hurt, Andy will never be 100% again, Tarver doesnt care, Johnny doesnt either. Those freshman wont carry the team on their own. I think he should stay.
zipper
You are too young and don't have the history. We've sang your song before. It's always "next year". Even Wood isn't playing with the spark he had at the beginning of the season. And Dambrot gets the credit for these last two excellent recruiting classes, not Hipsher. Guest AkronZipsFan34_1_5
I wasn't saying Dan gets the credit for recruiting the players. It also isn't Dan's fault that his son is hurt, and that Peterson is hurt either. Its not his fault that Johnny's friend died and it influenced his game. Now if everything went according to plan as in Johnny, Andy, Peterson were fine then we'd be in a good position but what happend this season as far as Johnny, Andy, and Peterson arent Dan's fault. GoZips
First off, I like Dan hipsher. I like him a lot. He is grit tough and demanding. But, there are shortcomings as well. A coach dare not get "down" on a kid for long. Coach Hipsher has a tendency to do this. Coach does not give the appearance of being warm to the kids. Is that a fault? I don't know. Coach's record of kids fading as seniors is flat out terrible. As some one pointed out, only Nate Schindlewolf gave a great senior year. I am disappointed that the two big guys, Ryan Myers and Matt Seibert were never utilized enough to develop on the floor confidence. Seibert blistered Can't last Sunday yet was yanked with just three minutes of playing time. Futch sat the entire Drake game when the Zips were badly undermanned. The Drake game is another issue. I first heard of the suspensions ten minutes before game time. Yet, I was able to visualize a one guard four forward offense that would be effective with in five minutes. The coaching staff did not go to this until the start of the second half when they trailed 41-30. And it took Drake an overtime and a lucky for them tip in to win the game. Credit coach Dambrot with the improved recruiting. Credit coach Hipsher for the foresight and courage to bring coach Dambrot back into the college ranks. Like most Zips fans I am trerribilly frustrated of waiting for next year. This was the next year. There can be no valid excuse for being way shy of a twenty win season. That rests on the coach and his staff. If the athletic director decides to make a change in head coaches I hope he has the insight to go no further than coach Dambrot. Coach Dambrot is top shelf as is coach Hipsher.
Z.I.P.
It would be easy to let personal relationships and emotions cloud our judgement, but in the end, college basketball is a business, and you have to put out a product to compete. If you don't compete you don't last. Akron's program under DH has failed to compete for MAC championships, and that's the bottom line. One of my big problems with the coaching is not just the senior flops that have occurred, but the lack of overall player development. There just aren't many players who came through the program who you can say became much better players during their stay. Look at Jimmal Ball for example at the guard spot. He was a true HS phenom, MVP of the Wendy's Classic. Never seemed to get better than his freshman year. And how many post players came out better players than when they arrived? Can you come up with more than one? I agree with GZ on this one. We don't need to go far astray to find the next coach. It needs to be someone with an anchor in the Akron community, who has a winning reputation. I think we have that man already.
Guest AkronZipsFan34_1_5
I heard Ball plays basketball in Europe I read that in an article, and GoZips don't you mean Nick Meyers?
Zip Watcher
I second GZ's comments above .. as I listen to the wheels fall off with a chance to lock up the home game tonight. I don't know how much I can take of this .. listening to the Zips on the radio is downright painful, for a number of reasons.
Guest CK at Home
I'd post something lengthy...but I've posted the same stuff too many times this season. I think everyone's sufficiently sick of my diatribe, however accurate it has proven to be. Can't blew a 17 point 2nd half lead tonight (at home). Three consecutive MAC East losses for the flushes. If we had any clue, we'd have a shot at the tourney because no MAC team is unbeatable on a neutral court (Gund) this season. I got my time slip approved for taking next Thursday off. All day watching college hoops in Cleveland, when Cleveland becomes a "college town" for 3 days. One of my favorite weekends of the year. I couldn't imagine how fun it would be if my Zippers ever competed in this event...but it is always a great time nonetheless.
Zip Watcher
Cap'n: I'm in the same boat as you. This will be my 6th consecutive MAC tourney appearance (that's more than some people we know!). It's my favorite sports week of the year .. and our team won't be there. We shoudl be sure to get together over the weekend. I'll be the guy with the brand new Buffalo Bulls hat with the tag still hanging off the side. L8er. P.S. All should attend & view the signage that might appear at the Gund
Kflasher
I cannot wait for the MAC Tourney to start. This and the following week are the best sporting weeks of the year. Does anyone know where they sell rope in downtown Cleveland ? I will also need to know how to tie a noose on to the rope. I'm going to hand these out to my Golden flushes because they might need them Thursday. WTF!!! Sure would be nice to see the Zips in Cleveland. What a disappointment. Have fun with Buffalo Sat.
