Hi! I come in peace, simply visiting from BuckeyePlanet.com. During the season a few members of the site put together a Preview of our upcoming opponent. I construct the "Traditions" part of the preview. I am interested in any game day traditions, before, during or after your games. Thanks in advance!May both teams play well Saturday with no injuries!GO BUCKS!

At the crescendo moment of the Zips fight song, when throngs of Akron fans madly croon, "Zip go the Zippers," the student section stands in unison, turns to the feverishly frenzied crowd, and unzips and re-zips their zippers.I'm tearing up as I recollect the scene. Talk amongst yourselves while I weep.P.S. On a serious note, we don't really have those kinds of traditions you're thinking about. We do, however, have Zippy. Zippy is way cooler than Brutus, who has an annoying tendency to make me feel ill. :puke: BrutusSee? B)

To clarify Buckeyeryn, we have a long football history, but there is a real disconnect in that regard. Blame it on the perception of Akron not being a winning program. I have been going to games since I moved to Ohio in 1990, and I don't know of any game day traditions. Not one. I am sure there were common knowledge traditions at one time, but those were lost to history. One thing I do know, John Heisman of Heisman Trophy fame was our first coach- a fact that I think is really cool and not played up enough. But the cool thing for us Akron fans is that with a brand new stadium in the works, and renewed interest in our program, we have the opportunity to create and build on our own traditions right now. Or even rediscover some of the lost tradition.I work in Columbus a lot, and I'm jealous at all the fan and media attention given to Buckeye football. I don't care to ever see the Zips overtake the Bucks in popularity, I don't mind us being a relative underdog, and I'm actually glad we don't have trillions of bandwagon fans with ZIPS apparel on every streetcorner....but sometime in my life I would sure love to see and experience Akron getting just an ounce of the excitement that surrounds OSU and its traditions.

Having lived in Columbus my whole life, I just assumed every college had traditions equal to that of Buckeye fans. Being much older now I realize that isn't always the case. I appreciate the input, perhaps it would be a good time to start some new traditions?
I'm all for that...and I think once we get in our new stadium..on campus...we'll have them.Especially with the JAR so close, we should have a game day pep rally (won't call it skull session).

That is an interesting little factoid. Thanks from a sports minutia junky.
