This week's rant

So the Zippies are headed to Orlando, Home of Mickey Mouse and the Orlando Magic... and this weekend, the home of the Top Ranked UCF Golden Knights. So what if the top ranking is in the bottom 10, the Knights are still a good bunch of athletes - they have just not found their stride.

The Zips are a beaten up football team according to my sources and the Knights will smell the blood early and will go for some quick points through the air. Buffalo and all others have proven the Akron defensive unit will give up the long ball and this week will be no different.

On the flip side, Akron has yet to strike quickly on offense with any consistency. The Zippies are practicing inside all week which means they are trying to hide something. Could it be trick plays or is it how beaten up they are. I would go for the later after hearing reports of the team limping off the field last week.

Frye cannot make big things happen with his little band of receivers who have big hearts but little talent. The defense is anemic and the kicking game, save a few returns last week, has been a disappointment.

That all combined with the lack of ability to play well on the road (Penn State, UVa, NIU) means this one will be over by the end of the third quarter and maybe the roughest loss in recent years. Not a great week to announce a new stadium when you serve up win #1 to the only 1A team in the country without a win.
