Zipsrifle Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 Great game guys! Seems we were firmly in control till the 4th. It always seems to happen that way. Well, we won the turnover battle and made them PAY for a few of those mistakes. That was the key to this game! Sounds like Biggs had a Biggs game, 150 yds rushing, 35 receiving. Hixon had 4 catches for 84 yds. Frye, 14 for 24 169yds. I think we might be turning the corner here. Last year vs. Can't, we blew it. Last year vs. UCONN, we blew it. Outside of the MTSU loss, we've been ahead in 2 close games at the end and held the opposing team from upsetting us. Even if we got lucky, it's this type of thing that makes me think that the ship might be turning. We seem to be steadily improving every week. NICE JOB ZIPS!!! Quote
Zipsrifle Posted October 17, 2004 Author Report Posted October 17, 2004 One more thing. First, I do give UCF credit for playing a tough, clean game. Second, I'm not one to gloat or rub it in, but I can't let this go without saying my peace. I couldn't be happier with tonights outcome, for one reason. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I hate UCF . Unlike some of our other opponents (Can't, Buffalo), who I hope have successful seasons after we defeated them, I hope UCF goes 0-11 this year. Why? I was extreamely insulted with their attitude their first year in the MAC and with some of the comments that their former coach made. In addition, whether it is true or not, I have always gotten the impression that UCF felt they were far superior to their MAC compeition. Their invitation to CUSA, though it is a good fit for them, I feel only fueled their superiority complex. So, welcome to the land of the bottom feeders. In fact, you are now THE bottom feeder. I know you've heard it a million times this season, but so much for running the table in the MAC. When I heard that statement, I think I wished for this day! Glad to see your school be embarrassed and your fans feeling our pain. I don't feel the least bit sorry for you, since the teams you were going to dominate, have taken you behind the woodshed and given you a good beating. Don't let the door hit you on the on your way out. I'm sure once you move into CUSA, you'll just take your program to the basement where I hope you stay for a few years. I just love it when someone who talks a lot of smack falls hard. I just hope that at some point in the future, when your program pulls itself out of the crapper, your program and fans remember this moment and are gracious when you know you're going to beat up on someone. Nice job Zips, Revenge is sweet, even if it's just for me. Quote
Guest UCFKnights04 Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 First (the nice part) , let me say I came over to this board because it is my policy that if I post on an opponants board before the game, that I come back after the game, ESPECIALLY if we lose to give my congratulations, and eat crow when necessary. Secondly, (the logical part)... Zipsrifle, I worry about you. If UCF has gotten to you that much in our 3 year stint in the MAC, I'm surprised you don't have a nervous breakdown when you hear the word Marshall or even any other MAC team. I've already commented on our attitude the first year of MAC play. We fired the coach, the entire staff. What more can we do for you sir? Face it - UCF isn't a MAC posterboy. The geography sucks for us, and it sucks for you unless you plan a trip to the theme parks that coincides. Also, UCF fans are the former fans of FSU, Miami and UF. A lot of them wear 2 hats. Our students grew up watching those three teams and their ACC, BE and SEC opponants. Soooo, with no disrespect meant - they don't respect you guys, or any other MAC team. Marshall had been a midmajor power and no one knew who they were down here until the smack started. The smack/bragging part (why not): Let me repeat - Akron is the LAST team in the MAC to talk about eating crow. Your coach started the battle of words with our "brass knuckle entrance into the MAC" that ended with you guys on the short end of a 57-17 game. I will also ad that UCF did waltz into the MAC as expected. 6-2 with our two losses coming to the East and West Champions. Marshall loss was by 5 points in Byron Leftwich's senior year. We led Toledo the entire game to let them come back and win at the end (typical UCF football in Kruz era - no conditioning - again, we fixed that). Perhaps you remember the Miami/Marshall game in 2002 where Miami coaches punched holes in the press box and got in fights with MU students? Three bogus pass interference calls on Miami in the endzone in the last minute? Miami losing by 2? If Miami won that game UCF would have won the East, contended for the championship and gone bowling. The MAC isn't as good as you want to think. You can enjoy this time of UCF hitting the rock bottom, but realize that its inevitable that we will improve in all areas. We are in Florida, we have amazing coaches now, we're joining a more lucrative conference, and our other sports are also successful. Baseball is top 25 each year and basketball had back to back 20+ win seasons and our 3rd trip to the NCAAs in 3 years. We have trendy fans - but we have 44,000 students and growing. When they catch our average attendance will be higher than the MAC single game record. This isn't dreaming, this isn't aspring - its just the predictable facts based on the situation we're in. Akron will not rise as long as they stay in the MAC. The MAC will not rise until they find leadership. The MAC has played better football than Conference USA for some time, with 2003 being the undisputable spotlight on how great MAC football is (even with UCF sucking it up). However, lesser quality C-USA teams continue to enjoy more lucrative tv deals and bowl appearances. Why is that? I actually feel bad for the MAC institutions as they are strong schools with a history of academic excellence and rich heritage, but just as the MAC couldnt hold on to the stature the had when they would beat up on SEC teams in the 60s and 70s in the old Tangerine Bowl in Orlando, the leadership situation has not improved. The future of the MAC is even more questionable when you look at the attendance requirements coming into affect. I'm going to step off my soapbox now, I wish Akron the best of luck. We "could" end up playing in a bowl game in a few years if the MAC vs. C-USA stays a reality. With Marshall leaving, it will end up depending on how Miami rebuilds. Akron will contend for the East though. Quote
Guest ***GUEST_racer Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 not to change the subject did anyone hear tommy g , what was tommy g on? id like to have some of what he is taking.maybe they had some in the studio? as for the ucf game a win is a win. i have to admit i just about wrote the team off after niu game. the wins are still against d-1 one teams; even thought they are not fsu .they still count in the mac race. the denfense is getting better something lo never did. the o is still not as good point wise , but also we are running the ball. i just hope they do not over look bsu. i realize they are not very good. at the same time i saw lose to msu which got beat by a 1-aa team. we also got drilled by three teams; so hopefully they will not come out flat thinking an easy win. go akron!!!!!!! Oh, the fallacies! I guess I'll start at the beginning. One Miami coach had an incident with one fan (screw those hole redhawks!). Secondly, there weren't 3 pass Intereference calls; there were two. One pic shows complete jersey grabbage by a Miami player. And you guys thrashed Miami because Marshall knocked them out of the East. You're crazy if you think different. If Miami won the Marshall game they would have been a whole different team, not the pansy you all faced. You might still have won. Who knows? Get over it ...how the mighty have fallen Quote
zipboy Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 Tommy G had me rolling tears down my eyes in laughter. All I remember him saying is "Can't State (2minutes of laughing) blows it again (1 minute of laughing). Josh Cribbs throws 3 (chuckle) 3 (chuckle), 3 interceptions (2 minutes of laughing)" then cut to the commercial. On the other notes above, so happy that we beat FUC. Knight 04, you seem like an ok guy but the last 3 years there have been some pretty big aholes from FUC over here. Marshall leaving the MAC is a big loss. They did a lot for the league and raised the whole league up. FUC has been an embarrasment and I say good riddance to rubbish. You have a good post above, given the money that you are pouring into the program, you should start winning and fairly quickly. Quote

Anyone know what set him off or was it just talking about Can't State and how they lost? If he was doing something in the studio, I want some of that. Quote
