Guest ***GUEST_Zipsrifle
ABJ and David Lee have egg on their face. Way to post an article, get it through the editors about Akron going for 4 wins in a row. HEY RETARDS, LOOK AT THE SCHEDULE, WE LOST TO NIU AFTER THE Can't GAME!! Well, at least it's an article. It'll be 3 in a row after tonight. Defense can't rest for Zips Akron looking to push winning streak to four By David Lee Morgan Jr. Beacon Journal staff writer You can say that the University of Akron's defense will have a chance to determine the outcome of tonight's home game against Ball State. Why? The Cardinals (1-6, 1-3 in the Mid-American Conference) enter the game ranked 108th in rushing offense among the 122 Division I football programs at 96.4 yards a game. Akron (3-4, 3-1) isn't much better. The Zips are ranked 103rd in the country in rushing offense per game (97.7). But the Zips have been very effective recently, averaging 169 yards a game in their last two wins. The defense, however, will be the key to victory for the Zips. Last week, Akron recorded a season-high seven sacks in 26-21 win at Central Florida. The unit held the Golden Knights to 48 yards rushing, the lowest total by an opponent since 2002, when the Zips held Buffalo to 34 yards rushing. Akron junior end Kiki Gonzalez had two sacks for 16 yards against Central Florida and was named the MAC East Division Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Zips senior end Chase Blackburn had two sacks for 15 yards in losses and Cam Yeow added two sacks for 6 yards. Senior lineman Dwayne LeFall, a preseason all-conference candidate, said: ``We are working on our technique and staying low to get to the quarterback and working hard in practice, really getting after the scout team. The defensive schemes have also contributed to our success in getting to the quarterback.'' Brookhart's job this week, among other things, has been to keep his team from being overconfident. It could be easy to overlook a squad like Ball State. The Cardinals, whose only win was Sept. 25 against Western Michigan (41-14), start two freshman running backs -- Adell Givens, who rushed for 123 yards on 28 carries last week against Bowling Green, and quarterback Cole Stinson, who threw for 193 yards against the Falcons. Last week, the Zips faced a Central Florida team that was 0-5 at the time and Akron got a scare, winning by just five points. ``I see a good football team (Ball State) playing good competition,'' Brookhart said. ``Their first three games (Boston College, Purdue and Missouri) were tough. After watching the game they played against Boston College, I had a greater respect for what (second-year) coach (Brady) Hoke has been doing. He is doing it the right way. They have great fundamentals.'' Ball State has committed just three turnovers in seven games (two interceptions and a fumble), which is why Akron's defense could play a major role in the Zips trying to make it four wins in a row. JP Morgan
You can say that the University of Akron's defense will have a chance to determine the outcome of tonight's home game against Ball State. That's the most stupid opening statement in a sports story I have ever read!!!!! Doesn't the Defense of ANY team on ANY given night have the CHANCE to determine the outcome of ANY game?
