ZachTheZip Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 They ran a story in the Buchtelite yesterday about the University Park Alliance. In it, they mentioned that Spicer Village will break ground next month. It's targeted towards that ever-so-elusive "young professional" demographic. This is essentially the first step to eliminating the ghetto south of Exchange street. It will replace all the houses across the street from the Brown Street ball fields and north of Power street. This will greatly improve the area. It is a big step towards creating a "college town" within Akron.Source: Exciting things in store for UPAThis also brings up the question, if this is set to break ground next month, when is our stadium going to get started? I haven't heard a thing since the official announcement. Quote
g-mann17 Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 During half time of the Can't State vs University of Akron game, Mack Rhoades mentioned that official ground breaking would be January. (that would leave 20 months for construction assuming an early September opening against Kentucky)But I assume that is after ground prep and leveling has taken place. That step was supposed to start in October. Quote
skip-zip Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 January?I want to see them try to get Luis P. to go out there with a shovel in sub-freezing weather and try to stick the thing in the frozen tundra. I might pay admission for that. Quote
