K-Roo
"Stadium Update 10/1/2007 Akron, Ohio, Oct 1, 2007 –– The University recently received the Design Development documents from Stadium Architects at HNTB and is in the process of reviewing these documents and making necessary adjustments to the stadium design and layout. Design Development documents are the final design documents submitted to the University prior to the actual construction documents that will be provided to the construction manger, Welty Construction of Akron. In addition to the physical layout and structure of the stadium, the Design Development documents outline electrical, information technology, plumbing and other mechanical intricacies within the stadium. The University will have until mid-October to review and provide feedback on the Design Development documents. A 30-45 day turnaround is expected to transition from the Design Development documents to the Construction Documents, keeping intact an early winter start date for actual Stadium Construction. ZachTheZip
Mid-October is in one week. Let's get this thing started already. There are still students living in the dorms scheduled to be torn down. The earliest we can break ground is in mid-December, regardless. I think that the fate of a downtown BBall arena depends on the economic success of Infocision Stadium. Mayor Don will be looking closely at how the businesses on East Exchange do financially. flipthezip
I understand that some landlords have been giving students in the rental properties on Nash and Thompson Ct. notices to be out as early as mid-month. The dorm students have 24 hours following their last final to vacate so that is mid December. When will the matter of the hold out businesses be addressed? I have to imagine the way the courts allow for delays and appeals it could drag on for months.

We can build the structure unobstructed, but we will end up looking at the back of the buildings if they refuse to move. My guess is that they will be out and at least leveled into a dirt lot at the end of the stadium by the time we first play there.
flipthezip
Some actually do affect the stadium. Looking at the renderings - The Odd Corner, Bob-o-Louie's (which I believe we already have) and the tanning salon sit where the ticket office and main gate are to be. The other businesses look to be in the way of finishing the design where the dorms/academic buildings sit. The problem is that we are going to need that dorm space. With the current growth and the expectations brought on by this new stadium, rooms will be at a premium.
